English, in Louisville, Kentucky, while serving aboard USS Trathen (DD-530), 4 April 1943–5 December 1944

Collection (1800 – 1834; 1860 – 1861, 1880) consisting of a business ledger jointly compiled by the Jones, Harvey & Aitchison Co. and the McPherson & Old Co., 1800 - 1834, companies owned and operated by shareholders of the Dismal Swamp Canal Co. during the construction of the canal; also a day book compiled by William Bagley, 1860 – 1861, pertaining to operations of a general store in South Mills, NC, which also includes Elizabeth "Bettie" Bagley's private diary, January - December 1880.

The Robin Brabham Collection (1862-1866, 1976, undated) consists of materials from several Civil War soldiers adn civilians, including documents relating to Thomas Midgett of Croatan, North Carolina, containing an oath, a parole and safe conduct documents issued by a Union Army officer, in 1862-1864; also documents, 1863-1866, related to several Union Army soldiers, including records of Major N. H. Foster of 1st Battalion, 12th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery; Lt. Col. H. A. Oakman of 30th Regiment U.S. Colored Troops and; also certificates of discharge by reason of death for members of Co. A., 2nd Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Artillery.

The Ormond Family Papers (ca. 1770-1925) include correspondence, land grants, financial records, school notes taken at Trinity College, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, and photographs pertaining to the Ormond and Turnage families of Dobbs, Greene and Pitt Counties, North Carolina. Considerable material pertains to State Senator Yancey T. Ormond of Greene County.

Naval Academy, 1872, who served as commander of the European Squadron, 1895, and Mare Island Navy Yard, 1898, and consisting of correspondence, newspaper clippings, genealogical tables, a poem, photographs, and miscellaneous.

Papers (ca. 1923-1978, undated [bulk: 1955-1975]) of a prominent Greenville, North Carolina attorney and Democratic Party activist, who served as administrative assistant to U. S. Senator Samuel J. Ervin, Jr., 1955-1975, notably during the Watergate Scandal, and including personal, social, business and political files, photographic prints, and oversized materials relating to his life in Washington, DC, and North Carolina. Also contains information related to the life of his wife Marie Hardee Spain, a Greenville, North Carolina, native.

Papers of John Montague (1978) documenting the life and literary career of the Brooklyn, New York-born, Irish-raised poet; consisting of the photocopy typescript of a poem entitled The Great Cloak; transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, 12/1/2014.

Robert Ryves (later Rives) is traces back to 1465 France. His family eventually settled in North Carolina in the mid 1700's. Robert Ryves descendant John Gaston Rives Jr was born on June 24, 1854 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. This collection spans 1818-1957, 2007 and contains three pages removed from the Rives family Bible, containing birth, death, and marriage records dating between 1818 and 1957, genealogy of the Rives family back to 1465 France, and a photograph of John Gaston Rives Jr. The strength of this collection is the genealogical records.
