Papers (1777-2022) relating to John Baxton Flowers III academic career, family history and Scottish genealogy (Flowers, Kennedy, and Thompson families of Wayne County, NC), historic preservation, horticulture and garden history. Included are correspondence, financial and legal papers, academic records, newspaper clippings, photographs, typescripts, genealogical material, publications, certificates, house plans, watercolor drawings, and newsletters.

The clipping file provides subject access to the North Carolina Collection's clipping file of selected newspaper articles taken primarily from the Greenville Daily Reflector and Raleigh News and Observer.

The majority of this collection pertains to James V. Lobell of Maryland who was a leader in the footwear industry from 1913 to 1961; he founded Cavalier Shoe Polish Company which was purchased by KIWI in 1961. Included are business and personal correspondence, photographs, reports, shoe catalogs, and bound issues of Shoes and Leather Reporter (1910s-1920s). Papers also reflect his involvement with the Boy Scouts, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (especially during WWII), and Business Education among other topics. The donor wrote his master's thesis on Lobell's life and materials related to his research are included, too. Unrelated to Mr. Lobell are clippings (1969-1978) and posters concerning Rose High School (Greenville, North Carolina) football and baseball teams; a broadside "Chronology of Pitt County History" created by Jessamine Shumate (1953); and North Carolina public school education-related documents (1906-1933).

Papers (1896-1917) including letters and reminiscences, biographical clipping, comments on World War I, daily weather conditions, postal services between US and China.

Papers of John Ciardi (1820-1991 [Bulk: 1947-1991], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Boston, Massachusetts-born American poet, translator, etymologist, and editor, consisting of correspondence, manuscript materials, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, proofs of published works, audio recordings, and printed materials, by or about John Ciardi, Elio Vittorini, Harry Crews, George Braziller, and others; in English, Italian & Latin language.
