The four month stay in Cuba of the 1st Battalion, 1st North Carolina Volunteers, from December 1898 through March 1899 is documented in these sixty amateur albumen photographs with captions. The photographs are 3 1/2" x 3 3/8" in 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" mounts. The soldiers arrived in Havana, Cuba, the day after the Treaty of Paris was signed ending the Spanish American War.
Papers (undated) of USNA class of 1941 officers, including accounts of service in the USS PHOENIX (CL-46) and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor along with published articles he wrote on nuclear power, macro operations analysis and modern war.

Papers of [Edward Joseph] Ted Walker (1963-1983 [Bulk: 1963-1964]) documenting the life and literary career of the noted English-born poet, short story writer, travel writer, television and radio writer, and broadcaster, who later taught creative writing at New England College's campus in West Sussex, United Kingdom; consisting of his letters to John Smith regarding publication of his poems; holographs and corrected typescripts of his poems; and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection related to Stuart Wright's purchase of Poems for Cordelia, by Ted Walker (1972).
Letters and ephemera (1926-1929) related to the life of Agnes Wadlington [Barrett], who was born in Trigg County, Kentucky in 1902, before she took a job at East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University) as secretary to the president of the college. Also found with these papers are many photographs of members of the Putnam family of Murray, Kentucky. The only connection between Mrs. Barrett and the Putnam family appears to be that both she and Louise Vey Putnam Carter's husband Herbert Leland Carter both worked at East Carolina University. An 1982 engagement calendar kept by Mrs. Barrett documents her life during retirement in Greenville, North Carolina.
Collection (ca. 1876-1942) of manuscripts, photographs, and printed materials relating to Vice Admiral Niblack (1858-1929) and his family, especially his naval, engineering, and scientific careers. Included are his work with the Smithsonian Institution; services in the USS ALABAMA, USS BOSTON, USS CASTINE, USS CHICAGO, USS COSMOS, USS IROQUOIS, USS LACKAWANNA, USS MICHIGAN, USS PATTERSON, USS PITTSBURGH, USS TACOMA, USS UTAH, and the USS WINSLOW; as Director of Naval Intelligence, 1919-1920; and his services ((beginning in 1896) as naval attaché to the U. S. Embassies at Berlin and Rome and to the U. S. Legation at Vienna. Topics covered include combat at the Battle of Manila (1898) during the Spanish American War, involvement of the USS BOSTON in the Battle of Iloilo (1899) in the Philippine Islands during the Philippine-American War, the Occupation of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 1914, and during and after World War I, 1917-1919, 1921-1922. Other materials relate to the naming and launching (1937-1942) of the USS NIBLACK.
