Major General Charles Justin Bailey was born at Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, on June 21, 1859. He commanded the 81st Infantry Division, American Expeditionary Forces, fighting in France during 1918 and 1919. Bailey compiled this album during 1918 and 1919 and it contains postcards of French and German towns and provinces; a few letters; photographs of France and the 81st Division including behind the lines scenes, Camp Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, and identified officers and dignitaries; clippings and ephemera; and eight large color fold-out maps. The strength of the collection is its representation of World War I in France.

Marine Corps aviation officer (Major Gen.) who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and who retired as commander of the Cherry Point, NC Marine Air Station, including correspondence, reports, war diaries, citations, certificates, and military records. A collection of Lt. Richard Norman Tetlie's military service records (1943-1946) and the official records of the USS New York's lengthy service in the U.S. Navy (1914-1948). As an officer during World War II, Lt. Tetlie trained recruits at the Ship-to-Shore Division of the Fort Emory Detachment, Landing Craft School, Coronado, CA, in the fundamentals of the amphibious ship-to-shore maneuver. He then served as the USS New York's public relations officer and official historian (1946). As a result this collection contains documents, photographs, newsletters, and newspaper clippings from the USS New York during her service.

Collection includes an unknown Wilmington, North Carolina, merchant's daybook containing accounts (March 1, 1855-May 9, 1857) related to ships (including, among others, Steamer Henrietta, Steamer Flora McDonald, Schooner Jonas Sparks, Schooner Wm. A. Ellis), firms (such as Carolina Hotel, Wilmington and Manchester Rail Road, Wilmington Gas Company), and individuals (Wm. Sutton, James Green, Samuel Sheppard, etc.).

The Jack Minges Papers include photographs, clippings, and memorabilia related to the Minges family's relationship with East Carolina, especially the dedication of Minges Coliseum.
