Stuart Wright Collection: Kelly Cherry Papers

Papers of Kelly Cherry (1972-1999 [Bulk: 1995-1999]) documenting the life and literary career of the prolific Baton Rouge, Louisiana-born American novelist, poet, essayist, educator at University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Virginia among other universities, and poet laureate of Virginia 2010-2012; consisting of typescripts of Paula: An Odyssey: A Novel, Parts 1 – 4) (1995-1999), an unpublished volume; a broadside of her poem Loneliness: Words for a Secular Canticle (1980); also including loose manuscript items transferred from Kelly Cherry's works in the Stuart Wright Book Collection Augusta Played: A Novel (1978-1979), Conversion (1980), and Sick and Full of Burning: A Novel (1972-1989).

Edgerton-Dow Family Papers

This collection contains material (1831, ca. 1910-2010) related to the Edgerton, Cox, and Pearson families who were Quaker families in the Nahunta Community in Wayne County, N.C.; Dow and Brownell families of Clovis, New Mexico, and Massachusetts; Civilian Public Service work during World War II; and the Massey family of Dudley, Wayne County, N.C., including correspondence, photographs, land deeds and publications.

Clifton W. Everett, Jr. Collection

Collection (1841-1959, undated) of manuscripts, genealogical materials, photographic prints and printed materials related to the James N. Dickey family of New York and Michigan and William Symington Brown, M. D., who served as a surgeon in the 33rd and 55th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, 1863, during the Civil War. Unrelated is a photograph of U.S. Vice President Barkley attending a Roosevelt Dinner held at East Carolina Teachers College (now ECU) in 1950.

Lawrence Fay Brewster Papers

Collection includes papers related to the personal life and non-university activities of East Carolina University History Professor Lawrence Fay Brewster (ECU professor from 1945 to 1969) for whom the Lawrence F. Brewster Classroom Building on campus was named in 1974. Included are materials (1857-1945) related to his parents and ancestors, Brewster's early life and education through earning his Ph.D., his teaching job at Cranleigh School for Boys in St. Petersburg, Florida, and his work with the Works Progress Administration as Research Editor for the Historical Records Survey of North Carolina. The vast majority (1960-1991) of the collection concerns his work as historiographer for the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina and writing his "History of the Protestant Episcopal, The Diocese of East Carolina."

Leonard D. Sawyer, Sr., Collection

This collection consists of reel-to-reel audiotape footage of U.S. forces at Phan Rang Air Force Base or Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam, being overrun by Viet Cong attackers. The tape was recorded by Leonard D. Sawyer, Sr., while he was an Avionic Inertial & Radar Nav. Sys. Tech. on a USAF plane during the Vietnam War. Also included is a two-page summary of Mr. Sawyer's service record with the USAF (April 16, 1968 – July 31, 1972).

Bruce Wilson Crabtree Memoir

Memoir "Precious Memories. . .in My Life" by Wilson Crabtree (2006) about life experienced by the Crabtree and Oakley families in Rougemont, North Carolina, in Durham, Person, and Orange counties during the first half of the 20th Century. Family history and scanned photographs for the two families are given as well as documenting life in small diversified farms with tobacco as the cash crop. Accompanying the memoir is Mr. Crabtree's obituary.

Joseph K. Taussig, Jr. Papers

Joseph K. Taussig Jr. Was born in Newport, Rhode Island in 1920. He was Served aboard the USS Nevada at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The collection spans 1996 and 2005 and includes the booklet "The Day I Lost My Foot in the Pentagon and Other Literary Jewels" written by Taussig. The strength of the collection is the assorted published articles about Taussigs experiences in the Navy and Pentagon.
