Papers of D. R. Fosso (1977-1978) documenting the life and career of the Minnesota-born American poet and educator at Wake Forest University, 1964-; consisting of an octavo brochure including a poem entitled Arranging, by D. R. Fosso, published by Press For Privacy, Winston-Salem, NC (1978); also a small portfolio of poetry broadsides entitled Two Poems Two, including Storm, a poem by D. R. Fosso & For I Have Spoken Too Often, a poem by Doug Abrams, published by Press For Privacy, Winston-Salem, NC (1977). Note: On verso of Arranging printed: "Twenty copies have been printed. This collection contains the records (1872-2014, undated) for the Cumberland Lodge No. 5, Knights of Pythias, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Types of material included are correspondence, financial records, rosters, visitors' registers, by-laws, deeds, records of proceedings and printed material. Membership information often gives a member's age, dates when each class or rank was attained, date of death and what dues were collected. In some cases indication is also given as to when membership was withdrawn, suspended or reinstated.

Papers of David R. Slavitt (1967-2009 [Bulk: 1970-1994], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the prolific White Plains, New York-born American writer, poet, translator, and educator at several universities, who has authored more than 100 books; consisting of manuscript typescripts, loose manuscripts transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, and proofs of his works, including his novel Cold Comfort; also including several works under his pseudonym "Henry Sutton" notably a typescript of his poem The Cock Book: Or A Child's First Book of Pornography; and proofs of Vector: A Novel (1970).

Papers of Jesse Stuart (1955-1977) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Riverton, Kentucky-born American school teacher, educator, short story writer, novelist, and autobiographer consisting of a typescript of My Health is Better in November (1977) and other poems; and reprints of the poem One Body (1955) and of the short story Two Worlds (1967) by Jesse Stuart.

Papers (undated, 1935-2000) of New Bern, NC public figure, Mutual Life Insurance Company executive, including speeches, radio talks, biographical and historical information.

Typescripts, notes, and original documents written by Lala Carr Steelman for a proposed biography of North Carolina Governor Elias Carr.

Papers (1889, 1907-1958) consisting of correspondence, diaries, yearbooks, scrapbook, songbook, typescript, travel accounts, photographs, newsletters, etc., related to attendance at Salem Academy and College (1908-1911) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and to the work (1917 to 1950) of Protestant Episcopal music missionary Venetia Cox (of Greenville, North Carolina) in China. Also includes letters and school materials related to Lo-I (or Louis) Yin who attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, from 1949 to 1951 on a scholarship related to Venetia Cox's music missionary work with Huachung University, Wuchang, Hupeh, China.

Papers (1935-2008, undated) pertaining to noted North Carolina-born poet, educator and artist, A. R. [Archie Randolph] Ammons (1926-2001), including manuscripts, books, proofs, broadsides, pamphlets, periodicals and original art by, about, or owned by Ammons; and relating to his family and childhood, near Whiteville, NC, his service in the US Navy on a destroyer escort 1942-1945; his attendance at Wake Forest University (BA, 1949) and University of California, Berkeley (MA, 1951); his career as teacher and principal at Hatteras Elementary School, as an editor, and as an executive at his father-in-law's glass manufacturing company in New Jersey; but primarily relating to his life as a poet and his academic career at Cornell University, 1964-1998, where he was Goldwin Smith Professor of Poetry at Cornell University after 1989; and to his numerous published works of poetry and his two National Book Awards (1973 and 1993) among other prizes.

The Karel B. Absolon Collection is comprised of Absolon family papers and Karel B. Absolon's research and collecting interest, particularly Theodor Billroth. The papers relating to Absolon's family span three generations and include Karel B. Absolon, Karel Absolon, Willibald Absolon, and Jaroslav Bakes (a cousin to Karel Absolon). Karel B. Absolon's primary research interest was Austrian abdominal surgeon Theodor Billroth (1829-1894). Absolon also collected items related to European, primarily men, in the science field. The collection includes correspondence, translations, prints, photographs, articles, ephemera, and original documents.

Material relating to the life of Clarence Stasavich before he came to East Carolina University in 1962 to be the head football coach (and later athletic director) and after his death in 1975. Included is correspondence (1942-1945) related to his time in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was an LST Commander in several theatres of war, items related to his time at Lenoir Rhyne College as a football coach prior to coming to East Carolina University, and clippings and documents related to his death in 1975, the subsequent memorial service, and scholarships created in his memory.

Records (May 1940-November 1945) include mainly correspondence between Thomas William Linder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his girlfriend (later wife) Evelyn Doris Hill of Cayce, South Carolina. Mr. Linder worked for the railroad and later in life was an engineer with Amtrak. The letters from April 1942 through August 1945 document his service in the U.S. Army with the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II. He was promoted to corporal in September 1942. Other items include two photographs, holiday cards, a pay stub and a poem.

Collection (1852-2014) includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, printed materials, and other items compiled by retired East Carolina University English professor emeritus Dr. Ralph Hardee Rives (1930-2016) relating primarily to the Hardee - Rives and related families of North Carolina and the United Kingdom, the history of Eastern North Carolina (especially Halifax County and the town of Enfield), the United Methodist Church in Eastern North Carolina, state and local and national politics, and his charitable and philanthropic interests. The earliest original documents cover the period from 1852 through the Civil War and World War I.

The Stowe (Stough)–Myers Family Collection contains manuscript and photographic materials documenting the personal, social, and economic lives of two interconnected families from Concord, North Carolina, and related communities between approximately 1882 and 1985. The collection includes correspondence, postcards, original poetry, newspaper clippings, a cotton buyer's receipt, a report card, and photographic prints. Notable items include late nineteenth century letters addressed to Ruann Stowe, early twentieth century postcards exchanged among members of the Myers family, and materials reflecting local agricultural commerce and family commemorative practices.
