Papers (1705-1928) of Alamance County, North Carolina, native William L. Spoon (1862-1942) consisting of correspondence, a diary, pamphlets, almanacs, maps, photos, reports on weather, tax receipts, and land records. Spoon was a surveyor who was supervisor of public roads in Alamance County and worked as an agent of the U.S. Department of Agriculture as well as a teacher, inventor, and traveling salesman.

Papers (1911-1968, undated) include correspondence, writings, legal and financial papers, news clippings, a photograph and miscellaneous documents related to the career of Harry V. Bernard, Sr., who was an American businessman in China beginning in 1911. The documents also reflect his work with flood relief in the Shanghai District of China in the 1930s and his internment by the Japanese in a prison camp near Shanghai during World War II.

The papers include letters, postcards, and papers written by Henderson Irwin and his father, John R. Irwin, and photographs of John Irwin's medical practice.

This ledger (1886-1903) contains accounts for a general store in Bethel, N.C., owned by Guilford Andrews, one of the town commissioners who incorporated Bethel in 1873. Loose papers (mostly concerning Guilford Andrews in Pitt County) found in the ledger are land records (1879-1887), insurance policies (1875, 1882), tax receipts (1880-1898), receipts and bills of lading (1880-1884, 1900), a license to sell liquor (1877), business correspondence (1884) and accounts.

The collection includes correspondence, printed materials, photographs, grade reports, teaching certificates and testimonials, legal documents and newspaper clippings which document the life (1891-1975) of Lenoir County, North Carolina, school teacher Julia Catherine McDaniel including her education at Hollins Institute in Virginia and her teaching career (1912-1960) in Burlington, Bethel, and Lenoir County, N.C., schools. The collection also touches on the lives of her friends, classmates, colleagues, and students and includes materials concerning the McDaniel, Harvey, Linton and related families of Kinston and Eastern North Carolina.

Papers (1885-2009) of prominent Washington, NC, attorney Junius Daniel Grimes, who was member of the firm Ward and Grimes, and his family and business associates, including correspondence, legal records, land records, financial papers, publications, taxes, installments, bills, survey, map, etc.

Original material collected by Horace H. Mewborn, Jr. including printed maps, letters, diaries, clippings, cartes de visite, tintypes, an ambrotype, memoir, ledgers, reports, and drawings related to the Civil War especially pertaining to Col. John S. Mosby and his 43rd Virginia Cavalry Battalion, Col. Elijah V. This collection contains a diary (February 16, 1863-May 16, 1863) and correspondence (September 14, 1862-September 15, 1864) written by an unknown private serving in Co. I of the 44th Massachusetts Volunteers Regiment during the Civil War. The diary was written by a man named Daniel while his company is camped at Brice's Creek, North Carolina. The letters cover a longer span and are written by Daniel to his sister Susie. During that time, his company was camped at Readville, Newberne (now New Bern) and Brice's Creek in North Carolina, near Fort Smith and at Arlington Heights in Virginia, and finally at Fort Delaware in Delaware.
