This collection contains materials related to an assignment, "Draw History and Draw the Course", that Dr. Kenneth Wilburn used in many of his courses from 1984 to 2014.

714 items (1775-1895) including estate papers, deeds, correspondence, chattel mortgages, tax lists, accounts, distillery tax returns, promissory notes, receipts and ledgers documenting the Tyndall, Kinsey, Sparrow, Williams and Noble families.

This Record Group primarily contains records of East Carolina faculty members' time of employment at the school, including their participation in campus activities and committees as well as their teaching and their scholarship. For some faculty members, personal items may also be included.

Papers (1942-1985) of U.S. Navy Captain including correspondence, citations, certificates, programs, clippings, photographs, and miscellaneous items. Ruder served in World War II on the USS Phelps and in submarines during and after World War II.

Papers (1927-1969, undated) including correspondence, memoirs, reports, flight records, flight log, speeches, etc. relating to the career of pioneer aviator and US Army Air Corps general during and after World War II.

Collection consists of five scrapbooks containing items related to the life of Judge Oliver H. Allen (b. March 20, 1850, Wake Co., N.C.; raised in Duplin Co., N.C.; d. December 16, 1925, Kinston, N.C.) and his ancestors and descendants. The date span covered is 1826 to 1980. Of particular interest are items related to Judge Allen's life, the Hicks family of Granville Co., N.C. (1826-1832 and photocopies of documents for late 1700s), the WWI service of William A. Allen and Judge Allen's sons Matthew H. Allen and Reynold Tatum Allen, and the lives of Judge Allen's daughter Martha Allen Barnes and her daughter Sarah Allen Barnes who married Benjamin Bruce Sugg, Jr. Items include clippings, correspondence, Oxford Academy and Trinity College student materials, photographs, resolutions, WWI military records, funeral bulletins, booklets, prints, and postcards. Additionally the collection contains courting correspondence (1912-1914) written by a Naval officer from Lenoir Co., N.C., while stationed aboard ships, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and at Vera Cruz, Mexico.

Papers (1862-1914) concern the life of Benjamin Holt Ticknor (1842-1914) of Boston, Massachusetts, after he enlisted in the 45th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers, Co. G, in 1862 during the Civil War. Included are thirteen letters written to his father during the war with nine (November 1863-March 1864) of them written from Fort Totten in New Bern, N.C. Several documents relate to a court martial and trial he participated in; other documents relate to his postwar involvement in the Loyal Legion and genealogy research. Also included are photographs of his funeral procession. Transferred (not purchased) from Denning House Antiquarian Books & Manuscripts.

Interview (1915-2003) with Washington (NC) native including discussion of her family, early life, education, relationship with Cecile B. DeMille, employment as secretary in the National Youth Administration and for Rep. Lindsay Carter Warren (D-NC), 1935-1940, marriage, hurricanes, and her observations of social changes, etc. Contract date: 11/13/2003. Rec'd. 11/13/2003. Interview (1940-1999) with ECC graduate, 1962, from Havelock, NC who became an English teacher and school counselor at Havelock schools, including Havelock High School, 1968-1995, pertaining to years at ECC, teaching, memberships in the Winterville Historical Society and Pitt County Historical Society. Interview (ca. 1920-2002) with East Carolina Teachers College student from Winterville and Rountree NC, who left school after one year to serve in the Army during World War II in Italy, Yugoslavia and Kosovo, and who spent most of his career working in an automobile parts store on Cotanche Road, Greenville, N.C.
