Papers (1922-1953) of a Greenville, NC attorney consisting of correspondence, legal records, ledger, railroad company, legal services, brochure, political speech.

This collection contains materials (1940s-2013) related to the interests and activities of Holley Mack Bell II and Clara Bond Bell of Windsor and Eden House in Bertie County, N.C. Mr. Bell served in World War II, worked on several newspapers including the Charlotte News, Bertie Ledger-Advance, and the Greensboro Daily News; and was employed by the U.S. Information Agency as a press attaché at several American embassies in South America. Mrs. Bell worked as a social worker, in Public Welfare, and also with social service organizations while they lived in various South American countries. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bell were active in historic preservation, especially with the Historic Hope Foundation, Friends of Hope Committee, Preservation North Carolina, the Museum of the Albemarle, and the Historic Albemarle Tour (HAT), and were active in the Episcopal Church. Included are Bertie Ledger-Advance newspapers, correspondence, publications, photographs, clippings, pamphlets, notes, and brochures.

The Edward Baxter Billingsley Collection (1817-1819, 1938–1999, undated) consists of historical research materials, drafts, and a typescript copy (643 pages) of One Destroyer and World War II: A History of the U. S. S. Emmons (DD457-DM22), by Edward Baxter Billingsley, that he later published as The Emmons Saga: A History of the U. S. S. Emmons (DD457 – DM22). Also included are photographic prints, photocopied naval documents, and microfilm reels concerning his research, and correspondence (1817-1819) related to his dissertation on Chilean and Peruvian wars of Independence.

Rep. Howard Chapin Papers (1947-2000) primarily pertaining to his nine terms in the North Carolina General Assembly from Washington, NC, 1974-1992, including personal correspondence, clippings, materials relating to his service on committees, and artifacts he received relating to the bicentennials of Washington, NC and the United States, 1975-76.

Papers (1831-1946) including correspondence, legal and financial papers, newspapers, articles on local business, hotels, banks, and miscellaneous.

These records (1894-2000) pertain to the Salisbury-Rowan Lodge No. 100 of the Knights of Pythias in North Carolina, the Salisbury Lodge No. 24 and the Rowan Lodge No. 100. Included are Minute books, Membership Roll books, semi-annual reports, correspondence, financial papers, applications for membership, withdrawal and transfer cards, dismissal and suspension certificates, rosters, directories, photographs and publications that contain procedures for ranks and rituals. Two documents (1898, undated) relate to the Zeb Vance Lodge No. 65 of North Carolina.

Includes Dr. Hunt's military records.

Copy of The Greatest Anti-Submarine Action of All wars (an account of the World War II action of the USS George (DE-697) and copies of supporting documents, including the USS George war diary for May 1944.

Papers (1817-1902) consisting of deeds, receipts, clipping, account book, tintype, and a transfer of land related to Lenoir Co., North Carolina.

Papers (1909-1938) including diaries, notebook of reminiscences, an expense book and other financial records, photographs, post cards, a map, certificates, diplomas, bonds and miscellany.

Includes a ledger used as a scrapbook (1930-1934) kept by Annie Higgs Duncan (wife of Herman Henry Duncan) of Greenville, North Carolina, documenting the life of her family including son Richard and daughter Mary Ann. Also includes two children's books A Child's Garden of Verses (1928 edition inscribed to Richard and Mary Ann) and Picture Book of Fairy Tales (1930).

Papers (1922-1975) of U.S. Navy officer, USNA Class of 1938, including photograph albums, correspondence, speeches, clippings, reports and photographs.

Papers (1908-1967, undated) pertaining to the military career and personal life of Lieutenant General Robert Frederick Sink (1905-1965), a graduate of West Point, a pioneer in the use of airborne warfare, who commanded the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army Airborne Corps, during World War II, 1942-1945, participating in the Allied Invasion of Normandy (1944) and the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne, Belgium (1944-1945); and served as Chief of Staff of the RYUKUS command based on Okinawa, Japan (1949); as Assistant Commander of the 7th Infantry Division in Korea (1951); as a member of the Joint Airborne Troop Board at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (1954); and as commander of the Strategic Army Corps (STRAC) and the 18th Airborne (1958); he was promoted to lieutenant general, in 1959, and took command of the U.S. Army in the Caribbean, a post he held until he retired in 1961 due to poor health; he died in 1965; the collection consists of correspondence, clippings, manuscripts, photographs & printed materials.

Lockey Family Collection (1891 - 2002, undated) relating to the Lockey Family, early settlers of the Pamlico River valley, including the Will of Joseph Lockey, 30 January 1746, copied from the NC Historical Commission, NC Wills, Vol. XVIII, p. 54-56 (Mss typescript); "In Memoriam of J. P. [John Peyton] Lockey (1805-1891) (Photocopy); Letter from Mrs. Donald A. Philbrick, 21 Oakhurst Road, Cape Elizabeth, ME, undated to "Dear Cousin Peyton" regarding Lockey family genealogy (Photocopy typescript); Letter from "Daddy," Tallahassee, FL, 7 September 1953, to "Dear Hope," regarding John Peyton Lockey (Photocopy typescript); and Letter from Jon Guy Diffenbaugh, Greenville, NC 3 May 2002, "To whom it may concern," transmitting the collection.

Memoir "Precious Memories. . .in My Life" by Wilson Crabtree (2006) about life experienced by the Crabtree and Oakley families in Rougemont, North Carolina, in Durham, Person, and Orange counties during the first half of the 20th Century. Family history and scanned photographs for the two families are given as well as documenting life in small diversified farms with tobacco as the cash crop. Accompanying the memoir is Mr. Crabtree's obituary.
