Collection (1973–1989) of color slides documenting J. Y. Joyner Library at East Carolina University, in October 1973, prior to the construction of two extra floors and the addition of a new west wing to the building, for Library Science 1000 class; also photocopies of correspondence, historical research reports, and newspaper clippings about the Greenville Town Common Confederate flags controversy, in 1983–1989; also photocopies of newspaper clippings about the Confederate flag, 1983–1989. This collection contains documents (1821-1994, bulk 1860s-1910s) related to the Newsom family, especially Marion Eaton Newsom, of Littleton, Warren and Halifax Counties, North Carolina. Included are correspondence, land records, legal records, financial papers, and a family history written by Marion E. Newsom (1909, addendum 1911) about the Newsom and Nicholson families. Some material also relates to the Whitaker and Heptinstall families. A large part of this collection also documents the history of Littleton and institutions there such as schools, churches, and Littleton Female College.

Papers (ca. 1857-1962) of the Barnhill and Roebuck families of Robersonville, Martin County, N.C., including correspondence and scrapbooks related to school life at Davenport College in Lenoir, N.C., and St. Mary's School in Raleigh, N.C., and Fairfax Hall in Basic, Va., in the 1910s and 1920s, and college life (1929-1930) at East Carolina Teachers' College (now East Carolina University) in Greenville, N.C. Also included are financial records and land records (especially for the Roebuck family for the 1870s through the 1920s), photographs and ECTC annuals.

Collection (ca. 1876-1942) of manuscripts, photographs, and printed materials relating to Vice Admiral Niblack (1858-1929) and his family, especially his naval, engineering, and scientific careers. Included are his work with the Smithsonian Institution; services in the USS ALABAMA, USS BOSTON, USS CASTINE, USS CHICAGO, USS COSMOS, USS IROQUOIS, USS LACKAWANNA, USS MICHIGAN, USS PATTERSON, USS PITTSBURGH, USS TACOMA, USS UTAH, and the USS WINSLOW; as Director of Naval Intelligence, 1919-1920; and his services ((beginning in 1896) as naval attaché to the U. S. Embassies at Berlin and Rome and to the U. S. Legation at Vienna. Topics covered include combat at the Battle of Manila (1898) during the Spanish American War, involvement of the USS BOSTON in the Battle of Iloilo (1899) in the Philippine Islands during the Philippine-American War, the Occupation of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 1914, and during and after World War I, 1917-1919, 1921-1922. Other materials relate to the naming and launching (1937-1942) of the USS NIBLACK.

Collection (2001–2002) of materials concerning the American destroyer USS Emmons (DD-457/DMS-22), which was the last American naval fighting ship to be commissioned prior to U.S. entry in World War II, and which sank on 5 April 1945, after being badly damaged by Japanese kamikaze attacks to the north of Okinawa. Compiled by a veterans' association, the collection includes a membership roster, historical clippings, photocopies of the association's newsletters, videotape cassettes, including 1 documenting the rediscovery of the ship's resting place, on 19 February 2001, and 2 videotapes by Japanese television network, NNN, broadcast on 1 July 2001.

Collection (1942-1945, 2006) of documents, maps, printed materials, etc., relating to his service as a Quartermaster 3d Class aboard the USS Ann Arundel (AP-76) during World War II, including autobiographical accounts of four voyages, and descriptions of its actions during the Normandy invasion of 6 June 1944.

This collection contains the records (1872-2014, undated) for the Cumberland Lodge No. 5, Knights of Pythias, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Types of material included are correspondence, financial records, rosters, visitors' registers, by-laws, deeds, records of proceedings and printed material. Membership information often gives a member's age, dates when each class or rank was attained, date of death and what dues were collected. In some cases indication is also given as to when membership was withdrawn, suspended or reinstated.

Material documenting the life of WWII U.S. Navy Captain Victor Delano including accounts (1941-1986) of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and duty in the USS West Virginia, by Victor Delano, Pearl Harbor artifacts, correspondence, Familygrams, ships logs, research studies, photograph albums, loose photographs, certificates, diplomas, medals and ribbons, clippings, programs, and publications. Also includes two packets of drawings of Admiral Horatio Nelson's flagship, H.M.S.
