Papers of Wendell E. Berry (1968, 1980) documenting the life and literary career of the prolific Henry County, Kentucky-born American novelist, poet, environmental activist, and cultural critic, consisting of a broadside entitled The Wheel (1980), published by Palaemon Press, and The Lilies (1968), a poem published in the Southern Poetry Review, Vol. 9, no. 1 (Fall 1968) and autographed Wendell Berry on p. 3.

Papers (ca. 1923-1978, undated [bulk: 1955-1975]) of a prominent Greenville, North Carolina attorney and Democratic Party activist, who served as administrative assistant to U. S. Senator Samuel J. Ervin, Jr., 1955-1975, notably during the Watergate Scandal, and including personal, social, business and political files, photographic prints, and oversized materials relating to his life in Washington, DC, and North Carolina. Also contains information related to the life of his wife Marie Hardee Spain, a Greenville, North Carolina, native.

These papers (1848-1882) belonged to Johnson H. Bryan, Jr.(1824-1883) of Craven County, North Carolina. Included are deeds, statements of debt and obligation, receipts, receipts for purchase and sale of enslaved people, correspondence, mortgages, bankruptcy papers, and a resolution of complaint related to tariff discriminations and maintenance deficiencies on the Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad.

This collection (1980-1995) documents the Greenville Area Preservation Association (North Carolina) from its beginnings and includes articles of incorporation and bylaws, minutes, correspondence, subject files, membership records, financial records, Heritage Tour files (1981-1982), photographs, a scrapbook, and records concerning the publication of the The Architectural Heritage of Greenville, North Carolina.

The Kayaitchess (1924) Vol. 1, published by the students of Kinston High School, Kinston, North Carolina, and the Connecting Link Commencement Issue 1926, published every other week by students of Kinston City Schools under the Supervision of Committee of Teachers have been transferred to the North Carolina Collection and have been catalogued.

Correspondence (1861-1864) of Edgecombe County, N.C., soldier in Company F of the 30th Regiment of North Carolina Troops stationed in various locations in Virginia. All of his letters are addressed to his future wife, Miss Elizabeth S. Ward of Rocky Mount Depot, N.C. Two other letters are from North Carolina soldiers related to Miss Ward.

This collection includes reminiscences by Peggy Rose Roberts Worthington (born December 29, 1931) of her life in Pitt County from childhood on a tobacco farm to the present that she wrote in 2012 and 2013 while participating in an East Carolina University Lifelong Learning Program creative writing course. Also found in this collection are photocopies of genealogical material and photographs pertaining to the Buck family of Pitt County, North Carolina, and the affiliated Jarrell family of North Carolina and South Carolina compiled by Lillie Mae Kite Buck.
