The Edsall R. Johnston, Jr., Papers consists of materials pertaining to the USS Mount Olympus (AGC-8), including a European cruise journal (1952) and materials pertaining to the U.S. Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, Maryland. All materials are photocopies.

Personal Correspondence (December 30, 1861-September 16, 1862; April 1863) written by William Wilberforce Douglas to his family members during his service in the Fifth Rhode Island Volunteers and in General Ambrose Burnside's Expeditionary Corps in North Carolina. Letters, copied by his mother, Sarah Sawyer Douglas, from originals into a single bound journal, include references to his time at the battles of Roanoke Island, New Bern, and Fort Macon. Additionally, the journal includes newspaper clippings accounting his exploits in the war.

Papers of Peter Hillsman Taylor (1908-1995, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted American short story writer, novelist, biographer, and playwright, who specialized in subjects related to the Upper South, including manuscript materials and correspondence, especially his World War II letters to his wife, Eleanor Ross Taylor; proofs of published materials; loose manuscripts from the Stuart Wright Book Collection; and oversized materials, by or about Peter Hillsman Taylor, Madison Smartt Bell, Robert Penn Warren, Eudora Welty, and others, in English and French language.

Papers of Harry Crews (1973-1987, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Alma, Georgia-born American novelist, playwright, short story writer, essayist & educator at the University of Florida, where he taught creative writing; including proofs of published materials, photographic prints, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, printed materials & oversized materials.

This collection contains materials from Sadie Hocutt's time as a student at East Carolina Teacher's College and her teaching career, including memorabilia, correspondence, official records, and coursework.

Papers (1938–1993 [Bulk: 1938–1953]), of U.S. Naval Reserve officer and destroyer escort commander, including official files and service records, and a History of USS SC-631; postwar correspondence relating to the Destroyer Escort Commanders Organization (DECO); a History of the USS Kendall C. Campbell (DE-443), by Cdr. Richard E. Warner; a scrapbook, compiled by Cdr. Warner's father, entitled Sub Chaser Navy: World War II, which documented the achievements of destroyer escorts, and Warner's service in destroyer escorts, patrol craft, and sub-chasers; also oversize material including a blueprint of USS PC-497 [renamed SC-497]; and a laminated fact sheet entitled United States Ship USS Kendall C. Commonplace book (1801-1846) compiled by G. Harris, while surgeon aboard a British East India Company opium-carrying ship, the 750 ton Lady Flora, just off Singapore, wherein he documents his care of two patients, a comatose 6-year old boy suffering from fever, and a 30 year old woman who was hemorrhaging; lists of more than forty books; abstracts from them including medical titles such as "Diseases of the East Indies," "Johnstone on Diseases of Hot Climates," "Jenner on Vaccine Inoculation," Erasmus Darwin's "Zoonomia...," Burke's "Essay on the Sublime," and "Southey's Life of Nelson"; including an engraved stationer's seal from I. W. Norie and Co. on the front pastedown; a "A New and Correct Plan of the City of Bath, published in 1801, and a several loose notes.

Records (1804-1926) of Pitt County, NC Family, including birth and death records, deeds, petitions, and a plat for property in the flat swamp area, including Oak Grove Church and Academy.

This collection contains correspondence (August 1941-June 1942, undated) between Richard H. Owen and his parents, especially his mother Mrs. M. A. Owen in Miami, Florida, while he was serving aboard the USS Crescent City and stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station at Corpus Christi, Texas. Also included is a notepad containing First Aid lessons and addresses.
