Printed materials (1960-1990) received by Drs. Joseph and Lala Steelman related to the National Democratic Party and related organizations concerning social, environmental, and political issues (1969-1990). The collection also includes family files on Steelman and Edmisten families, plus large collection of familial correspondence. Records pertaining to the Steelmans' time at East Carolina are located in University Archives.

Diary (Sept. 1943-Dec. 1944) of Joseph John Valinsky, a sailor aboard the USS Monterey, kept during World War II duty in the Pacific, along with correspondence, certificates, and military service identification cards.

Interview with retired science teacher, from Washington County, NC, whose father was director of prisons for State of North Carolina, who attended East Carolina Teachers College, worked in the Federal Bureau of Investigations crime lab, Washington, DC, taught science at Pantego High School, Pantego, NC, 1961-1968, and Pungo Christian Academy, Beaufort County, NC, 1968-1989. This collection contains 539 letters (1943-1945) written by Jack Ladd Carr (1924-2010) to his family in Pennsylvania while he was stationed in Fort Jackson (South Carolina) for basic training, in Camp San Luis Obispo and Camp Pendleton in California, and the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Carr joined the U.S. Army in March 1943 and returned to the United States in December of 1945. He was involved in attacks on Anguar Island and took part in Operation Forager.

Records (1944-1983), of naval officer, member of USNA class of 1941, who later worked with Lockheed Air and Missile Corporation including correspondence, notes, scientific and technical reports, articles, rosters, and miscellany.

Papers (1783–1930, [bulk 1862–1930]) consisting of correspondence, diaries, photographs, photograph albums, literary manuscripts, newspapers and newspaper clipping, a book of poetry, genealogical notes, etc., documenting the life of Commodore George L. Dyer, whose naval career spanned the years 1870 to 1908, and his family. He served in various stations, with particular emphasis on the West Indies, the Asiatic Station, Cuba, Madrid (as naval attache), and Guam (as governor).

Scrapbook, clippings, correspondence, photographs, reports, and other materials related to the World War II career of Lt. Commander Richard Hamilton Smith aboard the USS Teak and the USS Thomas J. Gray, and especially related to the successful evacuation during 7-9 September 1945 of British, Australian and American prisoners of war held by the Japanese at Kiirun, Formosa [Taiwan].
