Papers (1830-2014, undated) [Bulk: 1895-1970] of the Humber Family, documenting the lives of Robert Lee Humber, Jr. (1898-1970) and his extended family, including the papers of his father, Robert Lee Humber, Sr. (1864-1952), a businessman and inventor and his mother, Lena Clyde Davis Humber (1870-1936) and her family, of Kinston, Greenville and Davis Island, North Carolina; his siblings, John Davis Humber, MD (1895-1991), Leslie Mumford Humber (1907-1925), and Lena Dye Humber Smith (1902-1973); also including his wife, Lucie Julie Jeanne Berthier Humber (1895-1982) and the Berthier family of Villeneuve and Paris, France, and their children and grandchildren, families, educations, careers, activities, and writings; including correspondence, files, ephemera, museum objects, published materials and oversized materials, arranged generally in alphabetical order by the donors.

Papers of Theodore Weiss (1971, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Reading, Pennsylvania-born American poet, educator, and editor, who was one of the founders of the Quarterly Review of Literature, in 1943; consisting of an advance reader's copy of Breath of Clowns and Kings: Shakespeare's Early Comedies and Histories (1971), a collection of literary essays, by Weiss; also including an envelope containing a collection of 25 bookmarks distributed by the New York Quarterly (undated) with a quote from poet John Keats' letter to J. H. [John Hamilton] Reynolds (1794-1852), dated 17 April 1817, each bookmark was autographed by a leading contemporary poet, writer, or other literary figure.

This archive covers the early life and long United States Army career of Brigadier General George T. Bowman (b. 1869 and d. 1951). His career included service (stateside) during the Spanish-American War with the New York 65th Volunteer Infantry, with various New York volunteer and regular Army units in the Philippines (1899-1904), in Cuba (1906-1909), with Gen. John Pershing on the Mexican border (1915-1916), during World War I (1918-1919), and in Germany after World War I ended. Included are correspondence, orders and other military documents, photographs, newspaper and magazine articles, maps, narratives and commentary by Bowman, and a diary.

This collection consists of three diaries (1915-1917) written by John Ambrose Chalk documenting daily weather, agricultural activities, and interesting social events in Chowan County, North Carolina. He and his family were living on Mulberry Hill Farm while he managed the farm for Mr. Henry Wood of Edenton, N.C. Also included are transcriptions of the diaries provided by the donor along with family information, and indices to places mentioned and interesting events.

Papers (1865-2013, bulk 1919-1982) relating to Georgia Pearsall Hearne, an artist, musician, and teacher, whose portraits of prominent North Carolinians earned her state-wide recognition, including consisting of correspondence, daybooks, photographs, original artwork, reproductions of art work, newspaper clippings, printed forms, printed materials, genealogical materials, and miscellany.

Record (1902-1967) consisting of correspondence, tobacco records, financial and business papers, ledger, etc.

Contained in the collection are notebooks, pamphlets, photographs and negatives from Boice's time at the University of Pennsylvania and his career afterwards.

Papers (1866-1874, 1899-1964) including correspondence, diaries, daybooks, reports, certificates, photographs, manuals, clippings, an army register, notebooks, etc.

The Alice Morgan Person collection (1874-1943, 2004-2008) contains ledgers, testimonials, advertisements, correspondence, and news clippings related to the Mrs. Joe Person Remedy Company. The Remedy was developed by Alice M. Person (Mrs. Joe Person) of Franklinton, Charlotte, and Kittrell, North Carolina, and marketed by her and later her son Rufus M. Person. Other material pertains to the sale of her arrangements of popular songs, and to family life.

This collection includes letters mailed to Thomas Milton Carr, Jr. from May through December 1864 while he was serving in Company B of 2nd North Carolina Junior Reserves. Correspondents were mainly family members living in Martindale in Mecklenburg County, N.C., and nearby counties. Topics are news related to the Civil War, events of daily life and the effect of the war on them, and information related to friends and family members serving in the Confederate Army.

This collection consists of digital audio recordings of the weekly radio program What's Happening on Ocracoke?, hosted by Peter Vankevich and broadcast on WOVV 90.1 FM in Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. The recordings document local news, civic issues, and community events and include interviews and discussions with local officials, organization representatives, and community members. Topics addressed include town governance, public services, cultural activities, and issues affecting daily life on Ocracoke Island.

The largest portion (1911-1947) of this collection (1837-1993) contains correspondence, photographs, publications and ephemera related to the extensive charitable interests of Mary Estelle Crawford Fry, her husband James Woods Fry and son Gilbert Crawford Fry, all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The charities include the Bethel Mission operating out of Hong Kong at the time of this correspondence (1938) due to war in China, the San Miao Orphanage in Saratsi (Suiyuan Province) of Northern China [later became part of Nei (Inner) Mongolia], the China International Famine Relief Commission, missions dealing with French and Belgian orphans of WWI, and the International Students' House conducted by the Christian Assoc. of the University of Pennsylvania. Earlier correspondence (1837-1869), unrelated to the above mentioned charities, is mainly written between Mrs. Mary M. Crawford of Boston, MA, Mrs. Addie A. Stien of Norristown, PA, and Sower family members in Boston and Norristown. Also included are family photographs and family history information related to the Chitty, Stroup (Strup, Strupe, Strub), and Ruede families of Forsyth Co., NC.

Collection of scanned digital material documenting the life and career of Colonel William Haydock Fillmore (1893-1966), a pilot, barnstormer, and member of the United States Air Force. Included are 581 images related to early aviation (ca.1910-1960s), the Fillmore Flying Service in Oakland, California (ca.1925-1939), Fillmore's military career, family life, and his the farm named Chosumneda in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.

Papers of the Historic Halifax Garden Association include official documents (1975-1999) such as the constitution and by-laws, papers regarding tax-exempt status and a photocopy of the check handing over the remaining assets of the association to the Historical Halifax Restoration Association; two secretarial notebooks (1981-1989); a guestbook used at the opening of the Restored Eagle Tavern in Historic Halifax (June 29, 1981) and records belonging to past president Gwen B. Dickens (1975, 1979-1989) such as orders of business, attendance records, membership dues records, correspondence and material related to projects.
