This collection contains the records (1873-2010) of the fraternal secret society Knights of Pythias Grand Lodge, Domain of North Carolina. Records include biennial and annual reports of local lodges, the Records of Proceedings for the annual sessions of the Grand Lodge, financial records, minute book, constitutions and bylaws, publications and items such as the 1909 Pythian Service Book.

The Utaka Hashimoto Papers (1942-1946, undated), consists of a scrapbook, entitled Utaka's Over Sea Souvenir, compiled by Hashimoto's wife, Mitsuyo "Mitzie" Hashimoto, to document her husband's World War II military intelligence service as a Technician 5th class, in the 163rd and 171st Language Detachments, 32nd Infantry Division, I Corps, United States Army, which was assigned to the Southwest Pacific and Occupation of Japan. The scrapbook focuses on his overseas service, from October 1945 through May 1946, aboard the troopships SS JAMES H. KINKAID (WSAT AP USAT-480) and SS MARSHALL VICTORY (VC2-S-AP2); his brief deployment in Manila, the Philippines during October - November 1945; and in various locations in Japan from November 1945 to May 1946. Included are correspondence, newsletter clippings, photographic prints, black and white and color postcards, printed forms, U.S. Military and Occupation and Japanese currencies, and ephemera from Japan. Additional items document Utaka Hashimoto's military service and also include photocopies of records of his wife's voluntary evacuation (before their marriage) due to the resettlement of Japanese Americans during WWII and that of her second husband who was in a relocation camp.

The collection includes letters (July 1918-March 1919) written by family members and friends in Jamesville, Martin County, North Carolina, to Asa J. Hardison while he was in World War I service with a medical detachment at Camp Greenleaf at Fort Oglethorpe in Chickamauga Park in Georgia and then at Camp Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. Also included are two letters (1909-1910) written by Maggie Roberson (Martha Ann Whitley Roberson) of Jamesville to her brother.

Interview with retired science teacher, from Washington County, NC, whose father was director of prisons for State of North Carolina, who attended East Carolina Teachers College, worked in the Federal Bureau of Investigations crime lab, Washington, DC, taught science at Pantego High School, Pantego, NC, 1961-1968, and Pungo Christian Academy, Beaufort County, NC, 1968-1989. Papers (1858-1957) of Rev. John C. Wooten including correspondence, clippings, photographs, postcards, printed materials, and ephemera dealing with the American Civil War, telegraph operations, missionary experiences in Japan, Korea, and China, twentieth-century family life, and other topics.

Files (1717-1957) of Murfreesboro, N.C. lawyers and Hertford County, N.C. officals, including correspondence, legal files, reports, financial records, etc. of B.B. Winborne, Attorney at Law, Winborne & Lawrence, Winborne and Winborne, Lemuel R. Jernigan and James L. Anderson.

Records (May 1940-November 1945) include mainly correspondence between Thomas William Linder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his girlfriend (later wife) Evelyn Doris Hill of Cayce, South Carolina. Mr. Linder worked for the railroad and later in life was an engineer with Amtrak. The letters from April 1942 through August 1945 document his service in the U.S. Army with the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II. He was promoted to corporal in September 1942. Other items include two photographs, holiday cards, a pay stub and a poem.

Papers (1842-1970) consisting of correspondence concerning national politics, photographs, pre-World War II invitations, notes, legal papers, legal case files, school material, tariff discrimination, etc.

Papers (1822 [1849]-1898) including typewritten transcript, copy, letters, sketches, grade school reports.

Diary written by Edward L. Williams, while serving in the United States Marine Corps, describing his voyage, aboard the USS Alaska, to the European Station under the command of Captain Samuel "Powhatan" and under the direct supervision of Captain W. R. Brown, including their cruise along the Italian coast , frequent port calls, shipboard life, behavior of sailors, and his friendships and acquaintances among the ship's crew.

Papers (1926-1983) including correspondence, land records, legal materials, financial records, photographs, pamphlets, speeches, editorials, and miscellaneous materials.

Garrett, Sr. He discusses his background, education, business pursuits, and political involvement including race relations in Greenville and Pitt County, especially during the Civil Rights era.
