This collection contains twenty-four pages of genealogical notes related to Beaufort County, N.C., families including Bonner, Snoad, Smallwood, and Latham written by Lucretia Hughes of Washington, N.C.; and a scrapbook of "About Town" columns (1946-1947) written by Penelope Bogart (Rodman) as a teenager for the Washington Daily News published in Washington, N.C. Also included are two typescripts of interviews done in 1938 with a mill worker at Glen Raven Cotton Mill in Burlington, N.C., and with a woman who ran a lodging house in Raleigh, N.C.; and an undated typescript titled "Description of Mill Village" about life on Factory Hill where many of the Asheville Cotton Mill workers lived. The interview with the woman in Raleigh also includes her experiences during the Civil War in Wake County, N.C. In addition, there is an errata of corrections to Van Camp's Images of America: Washington, North Carolina and a Bible containing family history information.

Interview (1910-2003) with Washington, NC native, including discussion of his farming family, farm life, early life, education, recreational activities, beach seine fishing, the Eureka Lumber Company, Barnum & Bailey Circus, employment in the post office handling special delivery mail, in a drug store as a "soda jerk," and in the automobile parts business as a salesman and owner. Record types include annual reports, minutes, course proposals, reports, curriculum proposals, correspondence, lecture series, oral histories, publications, student work, and Phi Alpha Theta documentation.

Collection (circa 1988) of research material, interview transcripts, audiovisual materials, and clippings compiled by the donor for his UNC-TV documentary Boogie in Black and White, a film about the making of the movie Pitch a Boogie Woogie. This movie was shot in Greenville, North Carolina in 1947 using a local cast of African American musicians and actors, by John W. Warner, then owner of the Plaza Theatre in Greenville. The material in this collection includes an outline, subject background and questions regarding "The Block", a popular area in Greenville, all used for the making of Boogie in Black and White.
