This collection contains materials (1940s-2013) related to the interests and activities of Holley Mack Bell II and Clara Bond Bell of Windsor and Eden House in Bertie County, N.C. Mr. Bell served in World War II, worked on several newspapers including the Charlotte News, Bertie Ledger-Advance, and the Greensboro Daily News; and was employed by the U.S. Information Agency as a press attaché at several American embassies in South America. Mrs. Bell worked as a social worker, in Public Welfare, and also with social service organizations while they lived in various South American countries. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bell were active in historic preservation, especially with the Historic Hope Foundation, Friends of Hope Committee, Preservation North Carolina, the Museum of the Albemarle, and the Historic Albemarle Tour (HAT), and were active in the Episcopal Church. Included are Bertie Ledger-Advance newspapers, correspondence, publications, photographs, clippings, pamphlets, notes, and brochures.
Records (May 1940-November 1945) include mainly correspondence between Thomas William Linder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his girlfriend (later wife) Evelyn Doris Hill of Cayce, South Carolina. Mr. Linder worked for the railroad and later in life was an engineer with Amtrak. The letters from April 1942 through August 1945 document his service in the U.S. Army with the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II. He was promoted to corporal in September 1942. Other items include two photographs, holiday cards, a pay stub and a poem.
Papers (1916-1935) including a photocopy of an autobiography, bound book, of professional papers and articles and copy of a lecture.
Papers (1889, 1907-1958) consisting of correspondence, diaries, yearbooks, scrapbook, songbook, typescript, travel accounts, photographs, newsletters, etc., related to attendance at Salem Academy and College (1908-1911) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and to the work (1917 to 1950) of Protestant Episcopal music missionary Venetia Cox (of Greenville, North Carolina) in China. Also includes letters and school materials related to Lo-I (or Louis) Yin who attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, from 1949 to 1951 on a scholarship related to Venetia Cox's music missionary work with Huachung University, Wuchang, Hupeh, China.

Hunt and Michael Dukakis; Congressman James McClure Clark and Elspeth Clark, the Rev. Dr. William Finlator, the Rev. Dr. Donald W. Shriver, feminist Hebrew scholar Phyllis Trible; North Carolina legislators J. McNeill Smith of Greensboro and Willis Whichard of Durham; Civil Rights leader Dr. Anna Arnold Hedgeman, et al. Scholarly addresses delivered before national assemblies and editorials written for N.C. newspapers including the Winston-Salem Journal, the Charlotte Observer, the Greensboro Record, and the Raleigh News and Observer. Collection (1766-2010) consists of items related to the Augustus Moore (June 8, 1803-March 23, 1851) family of Chowan and Halifax Cos., N.C., his children Augustus Minton Moore, William Armistead Moore, Henrietta Moore Sutton, Susan Augustus Moore Righton, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Alfred Moore and John Armistead Moore, and the descendants of John Armistead Moore. Included are account books, legal records, land transactions, estate records, correspondence, clippings, and autograph books (1855, 1865) belonging to family members who attended Miss Willard's Female Seminary in Troy, N.Y., and Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicott City, Maryland. Also included are identified photographs (cartes de visite, tintypes, cased pictures, albums) of the Moore, Gilliam, and Skinner, families, religious books such as Roman Catholic Missals, Episcopal Books of Common Prayer and Bibles, UNC-Chapel Hill diplomas (1824), and items related to the 1878 Exposition in Paris, France.
Records (1955, 1960-2016) of the Pitt County Historical Society (of North Carolina), including minutes, bylaws, correspondence, and clippings, photographs, financial records, programs and photographs. Also included are the records (1949-1950) of the Greenville Music Club, the Red Banks Home Demonstration Club (1946-1950), old Greenville advertising fans, and a scrapbook for the Town and Country Senior Citizens Club (1978-1999).
