Original photographs were owned by Alpheus W. Drinkwater (1875-1962), a telegrapher and correspondent for The Associate Press in Manteo, NC, who was famed for relaying the news of the Wright Brothers's first flight at Kitty Hawk, NC, on December 17, 1903.

Map (1600) of North America, entitled Novi Orbis Pars Borealis, America Scilicet, Complectens Foridam, Baccalaon, Candam, Terram corte, by Matthias Quadt, engraved by Johannes Bussemacher, extends from the Caribbean to the Northwest Passage and from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans. It is excised from the original engraving published in Quadt's Geographisch Handbuch where the first Atlas was published in German. 9 x 11.5 x 0.125 inches. Matted. Hand colored.

This collection (1980s-2010s) contains material related to the life of Michael J. Hamer, an English professor at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, from 1986 through 2013, and a prolific songwriter, singer, and band leader who died in 2017. Included are notebooks containing his handwritten lyrics, poems, photographs, reel to reel tapes, clippings, and other material pertaining to his musical career.

William and Harry Whittaker were brothers who both served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. William mainly served in West Germany while Harry was sent to Vietnam in 1967. Their letters to each other cover the years 1964 to 1968 and discuss both basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey, and Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and their service in West Germany and Vietnam. Also included are numerous photographs taken by Harry while he was stationed in Vietnam.

This collection contains materials that date from Dowell's time as a student at East Carolina Teachers Training school and her subsequent teaching career. It contains awards received from both civic and professional organizations, clippings, personal artifacts, and scholarly works including her Masters Thesis.

The collection includes correspondence, printed materials, photographs, grade reports, teaching certificates and testimonials, legal documents and newspaper clippings which document the life (1891-1975) of Lenoir County, North Carolina, school teacher Julia Catherine McDaniel including her education at Hollins Institute in Virginia and her teaching career (1912-1960) in Burlington, Bethel, and Lenoir County, N.C., schools. The collection also touches on the lives of her friends, classmates, colleagues, and students and includes materials concerning the McDaniel, Harvey, Linton and related families of Kinston and Eastern North Carolina.

The Phoenix Historical Society: African American History of Edgecombe County was founded in 2001 to recover, record, and promote the unique history of Edgecombe County (North Carolina) as experienced by members of its African American community. This collection contains twenty-four pages of genealogical notes related to Beaufort County, N.C., families including Bonner, Snoad, Smallwood, and Latham written by Lucretia Hughes of Washington, N.C.; and a scrapbook of "About Town" columns (1946-1947) written by Penelope Bogart (Rodman) as a teenager for the Washington Daily News published in Washington, N.C. Also included are two typescripts of interviews done in 1938 with a mill worker at Glen Raven Cotton Mill in Burlington, N.C., and with a woman who ran a lodging house in Raleigh, N.C.; and an undated typescript titled "Description of Mill Village" about life on Factory Hill where many of the Asheville Cotton Mill workers lived. The interview with the woman in Raleigh also includes her experiences during the Civil War in Wake County, N.C. In addition, there is an errata of corrections to Van Camp's Images of America: Washington, North Carolina and a Bible containing family history information.
