The Mabel A. Grant Papers contain photographs, carte de visites, coursework, ephemera, memorabilia newspaper clippings, poetry, and a personal diary from 1918-1920.

Personal Correspondence (December 30, 1861-September 16, 1862; April 1863) written by William Wilberforce Douglas to his family members during his service in the Fifth Rhode Island Volunteers and in General Ambrose Burnside's Expeditionary Corps in North Carolina. Letters, copied by his mother, Sarah Sawyer Douglas, from originals into a single bound journal, include references to his time at the battles of Roanoke Island, New Bern, and Fort Macon. Additionally, the journal includes newspaper clippings accounting his exploits in the war.

George Vernon Holloman was born in Rich Square, North Carolina on September 17, 1902. This collection deals with the last years of his career in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1945-1946. He was a colonel and very involved in developing advanced technologies related to automatic landing and flying systems in the Air Technical Service Command (ATSC) at Wright Field. While on duty with the 20th Air Force in Guam as deputy chief of staff, he died in a plane crash over Formosa. Included are clippings, photographs and a postcard.

Memoir entitled "Recollections of a Year in Thailand, 5 July 1971 – 4 July 1972," by Ashby D. Elmore, Capt., USAF, describing his service during the Vietnam War as an Intelligence Officer in the U. S. Air Force's 432nd Reconnaissance Technical Squadron, at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base in northeastern Thailand. Photocopy typescript.

This collection contains personal belongings of Dr. Joseph E. Wilson that include reprints from "Southern Medicine & Surgery," Volume 109, No. 4, April 1947, "The Country Doctor Museum" pamphlet (1971), "The Loves of the Angels" by Thomas Moore (1844), reprint of "Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam," photographs and tin-type photographs, and a Southern Medical Association membership card (1916).

This Map of Charleston Harbor, South Carolina, was lithographed and hand-colored in 1860 by Bowen & Co. Lithographers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was included in Volume 5 of the American State Papers. The dimensions are 22.5" x 17.5" and the scale is 4" to 1 mile. It covers from Sullivan Island to Charleston and from Lighthouse Island and James Island to Hog Island and Mount Pleasant.

The Phoenix Historical Society: African American History of Edgecombe County was founded in 2001 to recover, record, and promote the unique history of Edgecombe County (North Carolina) as experienced by members of its African American community. This collection contains the society's official records, brochures, event programs, and publications related to research, community events and sponsored projects.

Seven engravings of University of Pennsylvania medical school faculty.

This collection contains material documenting the life of James Long Newsom, Sr., (1914-2007) of Durham, North Carolina. A graduate of Duke University and Duke University Law School and attended Syracuse University Law School, he began practicing law in Durham in 1938. Correspondence (1931-1940) documents his post-high school education and courtship of his future wife Frances Martin whom he met at Syracuse. As a member of the United States Naval Reserve, he fought in the South Pacific for the years 1942-1945 during World War II and this experience is covered with extensive correspondence, photographs, souvenirs, programs and military newspapers. After the war, he returned to his law practice and continued his Naval Reserve career. Also included are diplomas, certificates, family-related photographs (back to the 1910s), clippings, and genealogy.

Papers (1777-2022) relating to John Baxton Flowers III academic career, family history and Scottish genealogy (Flowers, Kennedy, and Thompson families of Wayne County, NC), historic preservation, horticulture and garden history. Included are correspondence, financial and legal papers, academic records, newspaper clippings, photographs, typescripts, genealogical material, publications, certificates, house plans, watercolor drawings, and newsletters.

This collection consists of three diaries (1915-1917) written by John Ambrose Chalk documenting daily weather, agricultural activities, and interesting social events in Chowan County, North Carolina. He and his family were living on Mulberry Hill Farm while he managed the farm for Mr. Henry Wood of Edenton, N.C. Also included are transcriptions of the diaries provided by the donor along with family information, and indices to places mentioned and interesting events.

ZamZam, an Egyptian-owned ship, its crew and passengers, including 120 American missionaries (from 21 different denominations), tobacco buyers and other passengers traveling from New York to Alexandria, Egypt, via Capetown, South Africa, who survived sinking by the German raider Tamesis 17 April 1941, including newspaper and magazine clippings, photographs, periodicals, correspondence, and photocopies of an autobiographical account.
