Papers (1767-1976) of three generations of Beaufort County, NC, lawyers named William B. Rodman, including correspondence, letterpress books, speeches, financial records, legal files, farm records, clippings, printed material, newspapers, photographs, genealogical material and miscellaneous. Originally from New York, the Rodmans married into the prominent Blount family in Beaufort County, NC. The Rodmans also held local and state government offices and were judges.
Papers (ca. 1890-2008, undated) of Vice Admiral Robert Lee Ghormley, a member of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1906, including correspondence, orders, diaries, memoirs, photographic prints and negatives, certificates and commissions, legal papers, printed forms, ephemera, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, maps, museum objects, broadsides and posters and publications related to his education, family and personal life, in Tacoma, Washington, Moscow, Idaho, and Washington, D.C.; his naval career; his life in retirement, 1946-1958; and also including genealogical and historical essays compiled by his son, Commander Robert Lee Ghormley, Jr. (U.S. Navy ret.). Vice Admiral Ghormley served in China, Nicaragua, World War I, and in Haiti. Between the world wars he had several appointments and also served as commander of the destroyer USS Sands and the battleship USS Nevada. During World War II, he saw service as President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Special Naval Observer in Europe, August 1940-April 1942; as Commander, South Pacific Area and South Pacific Force, and the battle for Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands, April-October 1942; as Commander of the Fourteenth Naval District and the Hawaiian Sea Frontier, 1943-1944; and as Commander of United States Naval Forces in Europe, 1944-1945.
Papers (1945, 1994) of a US naval officer including an autobiographical sketch entitled Trains, Planes and Boats: A Memoir [and Genealogy of Richards Thorn Miller], 1918 - 1994, by Capt. Records (May 1940-November 1945) include mainly correspondence between Thomas William Linder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his girlfriend (later wife) Evelyn Doris Hill of Cayce, South Carolina. Mr. Linder worked for the railroad and later in life was an engineer with Amtrak. The letters from April 1942 through August 1945 document his service in the U.S. Army with the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II. He was promoted to corporal in September 1942. Other items include two photographs, holiday cards, a pay stub and a poem.
Diary written by Edward L. Williams, while serving in the United States Marine Corps, describing his voyage, aboard the USS Alaska, to the European Station under the command of Captain Samuel "Powhatan" and under the direct supervision of Captain W. R. Brown, including their cruise along the Italian coast , frequent port calls, shipboard life, behavior of sailors, and his friendships and acquaintances among the ship's crew.
Papers (1858-1957) of Rev. John C. Wooten including correspondence, clippings, photographs, postcards, printed materials, and ephemera dealing with the American Civil War, telegraph operations, missionary experiences in Japan, Korea, and China, twentieth-century family life, and other topics.

Bryant L. Tritt was born on December 7, 1903 in Gaston County North Carolina. He kept a collection of family bibles. The collection spans 1778-1970 and includes photocopies of genealogical records from Tritt and his wife's family Bibles listing births, deaths, and marriages, etc. The Strength of the collection is the Tritt-Whitley family of Gaston County, Davie County, and Davidson County, North Carolina genealogical records.
