The Phoenix Historical Society: African American History of Edgecombe County was founded in 2001 to recover, record, and promote the unique history of Edgecombe County (North Carolina) as experienced by members of its African American community. This collection contains the society's official records, brochures, event programs, and publications related to research, community events and sponsored projects.

Papers (1785-1930) including correspondence, land records, legal materials, financial records, and miscellaneous items.

This collection consists of reel-to-reel audiotape footage of U.S. forces at Phan Rang Air Force Base or Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam, being overrun by Viet Cong attackers. The tape was recorded by Leonard D. Sawyer, Sr., while he was an Avionic Inertial & Radar Nav. Sys. Tech. on a USAF plane during the Vietnam War. Also included is a two-page summary of Mr. Sawyer's service record with the USAF (April 16, 1968 – July 31, 1972).

Papers (1920-1967, undated) of a North Carolina lawyer and politician consisting of clippings, pamphlets, speeches, announcement of a law partnership, report entitled "A Ten-Year Plan for North Carolina," letters, articles from magazines, ephemera and photographs.

Papers (1806-1950) consisting of correspondence, letters, receipts, photographs, genealogical information, financial papers, etc.

This collection contains the records (1873-2010) of the fraternal secret society Knights of Pythias Grand Lodge, Domain of North Carolina. Records include biennial and annual reports of local lodges, the Records of Proceedings for the annual sessions of the Grand Lodge, financial records, minute book, constitutions and bylaws, publications and items such as the 1909 Pythian Service Book.

Papers (1927-1969, undated) including correspondence, memoirs, reports, flight records, flight log, speeches, etc. relating to the career of pioneer aviator and US Army Air Corps general during and after World War II.

Papers (1907-(1930)-1965) including correspondence, minutes, reports, clippings, photographs, broadsides, pamphlets, press releases, radio scripts, post cards, genealogy, and miscellany.

Records (1973-2015) of the North American Society for Oceanic History (NASOH) including correspondence, membership lists, annual conference materials, book awards, bibliographies, newsletters, treasurer's records, programs, and publications.

Papers (1892-1940, 1960-1964, 1972, 1988) consisting of correspondence, pamphlets, photographs, clippings, newspapers and a book pertaining to the life of Rev. David Wells Herring, a Baptist missionary in China. The book titled Papa Wore No Halo was written about Herring by his daughter Susan Herring Jefferies Taynton.

This collection (1791-1960) documents the horse and mule business, farm operations, land transactions, saw mill operation, and other business enterprises of Edward Cyrus Winslow (b. 1886) of Tarboro, Edgecombe County, N.C. Included in the collection are correspondence, financial and legal records such as account books, ledgers, bills and receipts, contracts with other mule dealers, promissory notes, agricultural liens and chattel mortgages, deeds, and lease and rental agreements. Also included are superior court records, blueprints of farm tracts and dairy equipment, printed material, business and family photographs, and a small quantity of family correspondence.

This collection includes letters mailed to Thomas Milton Carr, Jr. from May through December 1864 while he was serving in Company B of 2nd North Carolina Junior Reserves. Correspondents were mainly family members living in Martindale in Mecklenburg County, N.C., and nearby counties. Topics are news related to the Civil War, events of daily life and the effect of the war on them, and information related to friends and family members serving in the Confederate Army.

This collection consists of digital audio recordings of the weekly radio program What's Happening on Ocracoke?, hosted by Peter Vankevich and broadcast on WOVV 90.1 FM in Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. The recordings document local news, civic issues, and community events and include interviews and discussions with local officials, organization representatives, and community members. Topics addressed include town governance, public services, cultural activities, and issues affecting daily life on Ocracoke Island.

This collection contains genealogical files belonging to avid genealogist Sylvia Corey (July 10, 1925–November 9, 2020) of Greenville, N.C. Included are files related mainly to the Corey (of Martin County) and Leggett (of Beaufort County) families, but also to the Gorham, Baker, Davis, Whitmell, and Wynne families among many others. Some files are related to her work with the Pitt County Family Researchers group. Also contains a zip file of born-digital genealogy material created using "Reunion" software.
