Florida et Regiones Vicinae is a map of Florida attributed to cartographer Joannes De Laet and produced circa 1630 in Leiden, Netherlands. Hessel Gerritsz was probably the engraver. Joannes de Laet and Hessel Gerritsz were director and chief cartographer, respectively, of the Dutch West Indies Company. This map has been hand-colored.

Included is genealogy correspondence written to and from Al Jones accompanied by pedigrees, family group sheets, and family histories (most written by Al Jones). Material is filed alphabetically by correspondents' last names. The main focus is the Jones family of Blount's Creek, Beaufort County, North Carolina, and related family lines including, among others, Tuten, Cratch, Stilley, Roe/Row, Orrell, Galloway, Searles, Harding, and Purefoy, and Pridgen.

A Sketch of the Catawba River at McCowans Ford was drawn by Charles Stedman and published in 1794. History of the Origin, Progress, and Termination of the American War. It shows the American Revolutionary War battle plan for the February 1, 1781, battle which took place in northwestern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, at McCowan's (later known as Cowan's Ford) on the Catawba River.

This collection contains two artifacts excavated at the Cape Creek site (Croatan), Buxton, Dare County, North Carolina, in 1998 during the Croatan Archaeological Project, East Carolina University Professor Emeritus David Sutton Phelps, Director. The artifacts are a signet ring engraved with a "lion passant," prancing lion, crest (Specimen Acc. No. 1283-1297) with dimensions: 0.75" (l) x 0.5" (w) x 0.25" (d) and weight: 0.25 oz.; and a musket firing lock (Specimen Acc. No. 1283-1976). Research results indicate they are probably of early 17th century origin, but late 16th century origin can't be definitively ruled out.

Collection includes a photograph album kept by three men as they travelled from Ohio to Warren County, North Carolina, (November 16-30, 1917) as they accompanied a train car load of cattle. Included are images of trains, train bridges, the farm ("plantation") belonging to N. A. Connell at Norlina and Warren Plains, North Carolina, Connell family members, farm equipment, and the process of cotton production (being picked, cotton gin, spinning cotton).

Photos of W. W. Johnston and his wife Bess Swearngan Johnston. Includes Bess Swearngan's American Red Cross Nursing Service card (1917), as well as items belonging to Johnston's cousin, Irene V. Shearin. These items include nursing cards (1918, 1920), a nursing school diploma, and a nursing registration certificate (1903).
