This collection (1924-2000) contains material related to the marketing of products produced by the Empire Brush Company of Greenville, North Carolina. Included are catalogues, price lists, marketing programs, advertising stickers and product wrappings, and original materials used in planographic printing of product wrappings. Although Empire Brush moved its manufacturing facility to Greenville Industrial Park in 1964, the collection also contains items relating to its pre-1964 years and some to Rubbermaid which bought Empire Brush out in 1994.

The Utaka Hashimoto Papers (1942-1946, undated), consists of a scrapbook, entitled Utaka's Over Sea Souvenir, compiled by Hashimoto's wife, Mitsuyo "Mitzie" Hashimoto, to document her husband's World War II military intelligence service as a Technician 5th class, in the 163rd and 171st Language Detachments, 32nd Infantry Division, I Corps, United States Army, which was assigned to the Southwest Pacific and Occupation of Japan. The scrapbook focuses on his overseas service, from October 1945 through May 1946, aboard the troopships SS JAMES H. KINKAID (WSAT AP USAT-480) and SS MARSHALL VICTORY (VC2-S-AP2); his brief deployment in Manila, the Philippines during October - November 1945; and in various locations in Japan from November 1945 to May 1946. Included are correspondence, newsletter clippings, photographic prints, black and white and color postcards, printed forms, U.S. Military and Occupation and Japanese currencies, and ephemera from Japan. Additional items document Utaka Hashimoto's military service and also include photocopies of records of his wife's voluntary evacuation (before their marriage) due to the resettlement of Japanese Americans during WWII and that of her second husband who was in a relocation camp.

Collection does not contain original photographs Collection, ca. 1908-1997, of photographic prints made from cyanotype, sepia tone, and black & white photographs. Original photographs were owned by Alpheus W. Drinkwater (1875-1962), a telegrapher and correspondent for The Associate Press in Manteo, NC, who was famed for relaying the news of the Wright Brothers's first flight at Kitty Hawk, NC, on December 17, 1903.

Papers of the Historic Halifax Garden Association include official documents (1975-1999) such as the constitution and by-laws, papers regarding tax-exempt status and a photocopy of the check handing over the remaining assets of the association to the Historical Halifax Restoration Association; two secretarial notebooks (1981-1989); a guestbook used at the opening of the Restored Eagle Tavern in Historic Halifax (June 29, 1981) and records belonging to past president Gwen B. Dickens (1975, 1979-1989) such as orders of business, attendance records, membership dues records, correspondence and material related to projects.

Collection (1973–1989) of color slides documenting J. Y. Joyner Library at East Carolina University, in October 1973, prior to the construction of two extra floors and the addition of a new west wing to the building, for Library Science 1000 class; also photocopies of correspondence, historical research reports, and newspaper clippings about the Greenville Town Common Confederate flags controversy, in 1983–1989; also photocopies of newspaper clippings about the Confederate flag, 1983–1989. Collection also contains 4 photographs of individuals from the Collins-Becton family.

Papers (1905-1999, undated) consisting of correspondence, minutes, reports, rosters, speeches, pamphlets, publications, yearbook, programs, clippings, photographs, farm ledgers, notebooks, bulletins, brochures, date book, deposition, will, contracts, inventory and poetry related to teacher Blanche Hardee Rives (1887-1973)and her family in Enfield, Halifax County, North Carolina. Also documented are her involvement in the Methodist Protestant (United Methodist Church after 1939),the Hardrawee Home Demonstration Club, the Halifax Co. Home Demonstration Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Halifax County Historical Association, Northeastern North Carolina Branch of the English-Speaking Union, Frank M. Parker Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Littleton College Memorial Association.

A collection including a logbook (9/11/1854-7/11/1863) for the ship Trafalgar, a packet ship with the City of Dublin Line, written by Captain Alfred William Harrison during its many voyages primarily between London, England and Madras, India, and other ports of call, a handwritten letter, a Mariner's Register Ticket, and other papers describing his voyages and medical illnesses, and a carte de visite of Capt. Harrison.

Collection (ca. 1987 – 2004) of maps, photographs, correspondence, genealogical research on the descendents of Shadrack Allen, Sr., newspaper clippings, photocopies, and other printed sources, including transcriptions of manuscript materials, concerning President George Washington's historic "Southern Tour" of 1791, focusing especially on those events occurring in Pitt County, North Carolina.

Papers (1926-1953) of Brig. General Paul A. Putnam, U. S. Marine Corps, an aviator, who was captured at Wake Island and was a POW in Japan, 1941-1945, consisting of correspondence, diaries, a photograph, clippings, citations, orders, recipe book, copies of awards, citations, publications, newspaper articles.

Papers (1890-1914, 1948, 1982) including correspondence, organizational publications, newspaper clippings, advertisements, blueprints, a contract, and miscellany.

Collection consists of a two volumes titled "Journal of a Cruise from Norfolk, Virginia to the Pacific Ocean in the United States Frigate United States, Isaac Hull, Esq'r, Commander" kept by Philadelphian midshipman Lawrence Penington from 4 December 1823, through 22 April 1827. United States was one of six frigates authorized to be constructed by the Naval Act of 1794 and it served as the flagship for Commodore Hull who was head of the American naval squadron on the Pacific Coast of South America. Penington documents navigation statistics, weather reports and daily ship life, along with the larger issues of interaction between the American naval squadron and British, Spanish, Chilean, Colombian and Peruvian naval and military counterparts.

Private journals/ships' logs (October 1860 - July 1878) of Benjamin Thompson, master of the brigs Progressive Age and T. A. Darrell, and the ships Sportsman, and Harrisburg (v. 1, 1860-1865), commander of the ship Columbia (v. 2, 1865-1870), master of the ship Peruvian (v. 3, 1870-1872), and captain of the clipper ship Great Admiral (v. 4, 1874-1878), illustrating his career aboard sailing ships trading between England, the east and west coasts of America, Southeast Asia (Singapore, Manila, and Hong Kong), and Tokyo, Japan, including highly detailed and dramatic accounts of shipboard life and commercial operations.

Collection (1870-1878) of manuscripts and printed materials relating to the voyage of the Clipper Ship SS RINGLEADER from New York, NY to San Francisco, CA, via Shanghai, China, including a log book of the voyage by George E. Peer, photographic print of Captain W. E. Bray, ship's tracking chart, English and Swedish New Testaments, and 3 Chinese language newspapers. Purchased from Ten Pound Island Book Co.

Also included are items (2008-2010, undated) related to Mrs. Anderson's daughter Mattie Archbell Anderson Bishop of Enfield, NC.
