Price Family Papers

This collection (1760s-1902) mainly contains land records, accounts, a will, and receipts related to the Price and McDade families of Edgecombe and Nash Counties, North Carolina. Also included is a PDF scan of "The Life History of Dempsey Trevathan and Descendants." Another interesting item is a diary (1890-1895, 1902) kept by Theron L. Budesheim's grandmother Franc Emma Rhoades Bates. She documents her life in New York and Pennsylvania where her husband Oliver Bates worked as a scaler in the timber industry.

American Expeditionary Force Athletic Competition Photographs

Included are eighteen photographs of American Expeditionary Force troops in athletic competition possibly taken at Andernach, Germany, in 1919. The photographs range in size roughly from 4" x 6 3/4" to 4 1/2" x 9" and 6 1/2" x 9", and three are duplicates taken at different light settings. Four different photographs show General John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing reviewing the troops and the remainder show the troops involved in sporting events such as a sack race, tug of war, sprints, and relays. Two of the photographs bear the photographer's mark of F. A. Ritter, Andernach.

Taylor, documenting progress on several troubled U.S. Navy construction project contracts to build shipyards and ship repair facilities in the vicinity of Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia; including contracts awarded to Charleston Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, the Clifford F. MacEvoy Company, the Savannah Machine & Foundry Company, and to its Shipbuilding Division; including projects to construct plant facilities, dry docks and floating dry docks, caissons, retaining walls, coffer dams, graving docks, piers, wharfs, pilings, and bulkheads, etc.; the photographs also show work crews, including racially integrated crews, and equipment, including: railroads, docks, buildings, trucks, cranes, and pile drivers; also including the leather-bound front cover of the original photograph album.

Schooner Hilan Log Book

This log book contains daily entries from October 29, 1816, through November 29, 1818, for the Schooner Hilan. John Hand is the Master of the schooner which sailed between eastern seaboard ports Philadelphia, Norfolk, Richmond, and Charleston. Entries cover weather, cargo listings, upkeep of the schooner, issues with crew members and passengers, and problems with the schooner related to harsh weather.
