Reconaissance of the Country between Newbern and Goldsboro between the Trent and the Neuse Rivers

Material (1844-1891) including correspondence, account books, speeches, pamphlets, receipts, legal papers, and publications concerning William Robinson (an Irish immigrant) who was a newspaper publisher, town commissioner and mayor of Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina, and his son Dr. Marius Emmet Robinson who practiced in Goldsboro, operated a drugstore with his brother, and was the first chief of staff of Goldsboro's first hospital.

The collection includes correspondence, newspaper and magazine articles, minutes, lists, property documents such as deeds and plats, photographs, and audiovisuals and computer media.

Includes information about the grant project, biographical sketches for each physician featured, and video recordings of all four public forums.

Photographs (May 1909; August 1914) of the 1909 Goldsboro High School senior class and of the 1914 East Singing Class related to Goldsboro, North Carolina.

The Lawrence-Gulley General Store Records document the financial and commercial activities of a rural eastern North Carolina mercantile business from approximately 1898 to 1955. The collection consists primarily of business records, including correspondence, mortgages, receipts, invoices, inventories, day books, account books, ledgers, journals, cash books, sales books, cotton books, and related financial materials. These records provide detailed evidence of daily store operations, customer credit systems, agricultural commerce, inventory management, and local economic networks during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Particularly extensive are the day books and ledger volumes, which preserve long term transactional documentation and offer insight into patterns of rural trade and community relationships. The collection is valuable for research relating to regional commerce, agricultural history, rural consumer practices, bookkeeping methods, and the economic development of eastern North Carolina.

The Goldsboro Messenger Map of North Carolina, 1879, with Beaufort Harbor Inset Map, (New York, NY: G. W. C. B. Colton Co.) was a foldout map contained in a handbook given as a premium to subscribers of the Goldsboro Messenger. The handbook contains useful information about North Carolina.

The Edwin Monroe Papers include reports, correspondence, speeches and statements, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and photographs related to the ECU medical school.

This collection contains the annual East Carolina Brody School of Medicine Catalogue that provides information about courses offered.

The William Cobb Whitfield Papers consists of a class notebook, ephemera found in books belonging to Whitfield, and various other papers ranging from 1873 to 1936. Additionally, notes from a conversation between Miles J. Smith, donor of collection and great-nephew of Whitfield, and Ruth Moskop, from History Collections at Laupus Library.

Invoices from Winchester Surgical Supply Company, Charlotte, North Carolina, made out to Dr. L. A. High of Nashville, N.C.

The collection consists of a letter (1/8/1863) containing a description of Brig. Gen. John G. Foster's expedition from New Bern to Kinston and Goldsboro NC and back, 11-20 December 1862, including accounts of engagements at Kinston (14 Dec.), Whitehall (16 Dec.) and Goldsboro Bridge (17 Dec.), from George [?], a soldier in Company B of the 5th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, to his Aunt Maria. Other items include a draft report (12/22/1862) by Colonel Charles R. Codman, 45th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Cadet Regiment), of engagements at Kinston and White Hall, NC, (12/14 through 12/16/1862), and items related to Colonel Codman.
