Frances Brake discusses her time as a student at East Carolina College, her family's farming in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, and her teaching career.


Biographical/historical information

Margaret Frances Brake was born October 10, 1935 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina to Robert Earl Brake and Margaret Melissa Burges. She grew up on a farm outside of Rocky Mount and attended East Carolina College, earning her undergraduate degree in 1957 and her Masters in Education in 1961. She taught 6th grade in Newport News, Virginia and Burlington, Greensboro, and Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Margaret Frances Brake discusses her time as a student at East Carolina College, her family's farming in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, and her teaching career. She mentions a polio outbreak circa 1941, the Great Depression, and her aunt and fellow ECC alumni Emma Jean Brake.
