This collection contains the scholarly works of retired School of Music Professor Edward Jacobs, including sound and video recordings and manuscript music scores.


Biographical/historical information

While earning his bachelors degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Edward Jacobs studied jazz performance and composition. He then earned a graduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in composition. Lastly, he earned a doctorate at Columbia University. Jacobs began teaching at East Carolina University in 1998 and retired in 2024. At ECU he founded the NC NewMusic Initiative. His work as a composer has been recognized by a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Charles Ives Fellowship of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
