This collection contains a scrapbook, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and awards from alumnus Paul Jones that document his athletic and military careers during the 1950s.
Paul Edward Jones was born in Thomasville, N.C. on July 25, 1932. He graduated from Thomasville Senior High in 1950 and attended East Carolina College. In high school and in college he played basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1955 from East Carolina College. He married Betty W. Jones in 1952. They were married for almost 50 years, until her death in 2002. They had three children, two daughters and a son, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren at the time of his death. He served two years in the United States Air Force, stationed in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a well-respected educator and coach in Kinston, NC. starting his career in 1957. He was inducted into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2000, the Kinston Lenoir County Charter Member Sports Hall of Fame in 2004, and the ECU Educators Hall of Fame in 2008. He died on Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Fayetteville, NC.

Jones was a member of the Thomasville High School and East Carolina College baseball and basketball teams. He also served in the Air National Guard as a Second Lieutenant.
