This collection contains scrapbooks about the Department and later School of Home Economics. The collection also contains annual reports, meeting minutes, course information and syllabi, event programs, publications, and photographs.
The Home Economics Department was established in 1918 at East Carolina Teachers Training School. A major in Home Economics was established in 1922 with the first four year A. B. degrees being awarded to graduates in 1926. The department became the School of Home Economics in 1968. In 1989 Home Economics became Family and Consumer Sciences. In 1991 the School of Home Economics became the School of Human Evnironmental Sciences. Courses from the School of Home Economics were absorbed into the Family and Counsumer Sciences Education Bachelors of Science degree in the Department of Human Development and Family Science.
