Lt. Commander Shelly discusses his experiences as a Navy junior (his father retired as a Rear Admiral, USNA Class of 1915), living in Annapolis, Cuba, St. Petersburg, Los Angeles, etc. He comments on his schooling and his experiences as a midshipman at the USNA. For World War II he relates experiences in the USS DRAYTON and the USS MONTPELIER in the South Pacific, flight training in 1943-44, and duty as a PBY pilot from 1944-46. He resigned his commission in 1946 and discusses his business career after leaving the Navy.
