Biographical/historical information
Charles Price was a British cartographer, land surveyor, and engraver. According to several bookseller's websites, he apprenticed with John Seller in 1694 and entered into a partnership with Jeremiah Seller around 1703. It is believed that he died in debtor's prison in 1733.
John Machin (1680—1751) was an English mathematician, best known for developing a quickly converging series for pi in 1706 and using it to compute the value of pi to 100 decimal places. Machin was professor of astronomy at Gresham College, London (1713–1751).
