A Sketch of the Catawba River at McCowans Ford was drawn by Charles Stedman and published in 1794 as part of his History of the Origin, Progress, and Termination of the American War. It shows the American Revolutionary War battle plan for the February 1, 1781, battle which took place in northwestern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, at McCowan's (later known as Cowan's Ford) on the Catawba River.
