Biographical/historical information

Malthus Reaumer Freeman was born 1888 December 4 in Oldfields, North Carolina to Howard F. and Sallie (Williamson) Freeman. In 1913, he graduated from the Medical College of Virginia with his doctorate in medicine. After graduation, Freeman opened an office in Bailey, North Carolina, but took a temporary leave to serve in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War I. He enlisted on 1917 September 9 and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Medical Detachment of 338th Infantry, 85th Division, and was discharged 1919 June 21. He married Pearl Miller in 1920. Freeman died 1962 September 28 in Wilson, North Carolina.


Scope and arrangement

Dr. Freeman's papers include an account book for Dr. Freeman dating from 1931 to 1941, a large group photograph of Medical Detachment 338 Infantry, Camp Custer, Michigan, photograph of Dr. Freeman and his friend dressed in hunting attire, photograph of Dr. Freeman and other students at the University College of Medicine in Richmond, VA, and Dr. Freeman's medical school diploma.
