Biographical/historical information

Luther Kenneth Edwards Sr. was born 1888 August 6. He lived in Stantonsburg until he was 16 when he entered the Littleton High School. He attended Trinity College in Durham and then Southern College of Pharmacy, now College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Mercer University. Edwards opened the Stantonsburg Drug Company in the mid-1910s. He married Blanche Ivey in 1915 and had four children, L. Kenneth Jr., Grace, Howard, and Tom. Edwards died 1949 March 29.

Luther Kenneth Edwards Jr. was born 1916 October 18 in Stantonsburg, North Carolina. After graduating from Stantonsburg High School, he attended Louisburg College. In 1939, he graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy and joined his father's business, the Stantonsburg Drug Company. Edwards became manager after his father's illness and owned the business from 1950 until his retirement in 1982. In 1977, he received the "Bowl of Hygeia" award for outstanding service to his community from the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association. He married Addie Mae Howard in 1937 and they had two daughters, Nancy Karen Edwards and Joan Howard Edwards. Edwards died 2006 November 20.
