In this oral history, Anthropology Professor Emeritus Charles Ewen provides information about East Carolina University's relationship with the Tuscarora Nation of New York and the history of the Nooherooka Wampum Belt.


Biographical/historical information

Charles Ewen earned a PhD at the University of Florida in 1987. He did archeaology work for the state of Florida and Arkansas before joining the faculty of East Carolina University in 1994. He served as the Harriot College Distinguished Professor of Anthropology as well as Director of the Phelps Archaeology Laboratory before retiring in 2025.
