This collection contains the adminstrative records of Samuel Rudolph "Rudy" Alexander, the former Director of University Unions and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at East Carolina from 1962 through 1995.


Biographical/historical information

Samuel Rudolph "Rudy" Alexander graduated from East Carolina Teachers College (ECTC) in 1953. During his time on campus, Alexander was active in student govermnent, was a member of the Young Republicans Club, the International Relations Club, the ECTC band, as well as many other clubs and organizations. After completing his graduate studies, Alexander returned to East Carolina in 1962 as the Director of University Unions and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, a position he held until his retirement in 1995. During his time in this role, Alexander led a series of projects and programs on campus aimed at improving the campus experience for the student body. Of these project, he is best known for his leadership during the renovation of Wright Auditoriun and the creation of the performing arts series that was later renamed the S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series in his honor.

This collection contains the administrative correspondence of Samuel Rudolph "Rudy" Alexander, the former Director of University Unions and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at East Carolina University. The collection also contains his official university written job description. The materials pertain to his daily work in the roles he held during his time on campus.
