Scope and arrangement
Mrs. Settle recounts her background in Massachusetts, her marriage to Thomas G. W. Settle, and her subsequent experiences as the wife of a naval officer. Included are commentary on Admiral Settle's service aboard airships (1924-1929), his participation in balloon races and experiments in lighter-than-air travel, as well as her own experiences in airship travel. She also describes life in China and the Far East while her husband was assigned to various commands within the Asiatic Fleet (1934-1938, 1945-1946). Other commentary concerns her life during World War II, residence at Newport, R.I., and travel to Turkey.
In her second interview Mrs. Settle continues her discussion of experiences in Turkey. She then recounts Admiral Settle's duty in New Orleans with the 8th Naval District, in San Diego with the Pacific Fleet, and in Norway prior to his retirement in 1957.
