    The papers come from Dr. James Bryant Person and James Bryant Person Jr., his son, and include account ledgers from Dr. Person and papers related to settling Dr. Person’s estate after his death. James Jr. was one of the executors on the estate, along with Hattie Person, Dr. Person’s wife. A copy of Dr. Person’s inventory, transferring stocks to James Jr., and papers documenting settling any debts are among the papers related to settling Dr. Person’s estate after his death.

  • Biographical / Historical Note
     

    James Bryant Person was born 25 August 1873 to Dr. John B. and Patience (Lancaster) Person in Fremont, North Carolina. He graduated from Oak Ridge Institute in 1893 and then the Medical College of Virginia in 1897. After graduating, Person returned to Fremont to practice, until December 1899 when he moved to Selma, North Carolina where he engaged in both general practice of medicine and surgery. Person married Hattie Mosley in 1905 and they had one son, James Jr. (1912-1975). In 1916, in partnership with Dr. George D. Vick, they built the Professional Building in Selma, where he maintained his office. Person was a member of the American Medical Association, the Medical Society of the State of North Carolina, the Johnston County Medical Society, and was involved with the Masons and Kiwanis Club. Dr. Person practiced medicine for 40 years in the Selma, North Carolina area. He died in July 1939.
