Biographical/historical information

Anderson Jones Smith was born 1894 July 3 in North Carolina to George Adam and Annie M. (Jones) Smith. George was a doctor, and moved the family from Siler City to Fremont in 1912. Smith first traveled into the county in his father's buggy. After completing his preparatory courses at Guilford College, Smith took the two-year med school course available at the University of North Carolina and then enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and earned his doctorate in 1921. He then moved to Black Creek, North Carolina and began his practice. He married Betty Allen in 1922 and they had five children: Edna, Anderson Jr., John, Claude, and Franklin. Smith was recognized in 1971 for fifty years of practice in the Black Creek area. He died 1978 June 7 in Wilson, North Carolina.
