Biographical/historical information
George M. Chapman was born in North Carolina in 1872. He owned a farm and practiced medicine in Logan Store, North Carolina (Rutherford County) in 1910, and by 1920, he and his family lived in Morven, North Carolina (Anson County). Chapman was married to Annie Foard [or Ford]. He died in 1921 at the age of 49.
Scope and arrangement
The George M. Chapman papers contain a complete set of the 1908 volume of The Medical World. The periodical advertises medical instruments, equipment, and more and includes many classified ads. Doctors across the county wrote to the editors of the journal. They often asked other professionals for advice about troubling cases and submitted medical anecdotes. The Medical World was published by the W.B. Saunders Company in Philadelphia.
