  • Biographical / Historical Note

George Ammie McLemore Sr. was born in Sampson County, North Carolina on 12 November 1878 to David and Margaret (Hall) McLemore. He graduated from the Medical Department of the University of North Carolina at Raleigh in 1906. In Smithfield, McLemore practiced medicine and superintended the management of farms, town property, and a drug store. He married Nellie E. Johnson in 1908, and they had five children: Annie Lucille (Austin), Margaret Elizabeth (Lee), Mina Eloise (Grady), George Ammie Jr., and Robert Alderman. Nellie died in April 1934, and he would marry second Geneva Godwin Rowland in 1953. He died 14 April 1961 in North Carolina.
