Collection contains correspondence (1853-1902) between Andrew Carson Cowles (b. 1833 - d. 1881) and his wife Margaret Catherine Reynolds Cowles (b. 1846 - d. 1938) and their relatives and friends. Andrew Cowles was from Hamptonville, Yadkin County, North Carolina, and Margaret Reynolds [Cowles] was from Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina. The bulk of the correspondence covers the 1860s to the 1890s. Also included are a few receipts (1849, 1861), legal documents (1847-1870), a land deed (1835), and a scrapbook (ca. 1910s) containing newspaper clippings concerning poetry and politics, photographs, and ephemera.
