These papers contain the correspondence and the autograph note of Josephine Somers, who was a student of the Chowan Baptist Institute in 1878. These four letters and the autograph note provide details of her time at the Institute. The four letters were written to her brother Allie and they describe the activities of the students. These activities included a picnic, studying, travel and plans for the summer. Family news was also mentioned in the letters. The autograph note includes names of classmates and poetry.
