Biographical/historical information
The 113th Field Artillery Regiment, North Carolina National Guard, was originally organized in June 1917 as the 1st Regiment, North Carolina Field Artillery, during the United States' mobilization for World War I. It was subsequently redesignated as the 113th Field Artillery and assigned to the 30th Division. The regiment served in France in 1918 and was demobilized in 1919 following the conclusion of the war.
The regiment was reconstituted in 1921 as part of the North Carolina National Guard during the postwar reorganization of the United States Army and its reserve components. Throughout the 1920s and into the early 1930s, the 113th Field Artillery Regiment functioned as a peacetime National Guard unit. Its activities included routine training, administrative organization, and participation in scheduled encampments in accordance with federal and state military requirements.
By 1930, the regiment was an established component of North Carolina's National Guard structure, maintaining its organizational lineage from World War I service while operating within the framework of the reserve force development.
