This genealogy collection includes photocopied details on over 50 families in or around Beaufort County, North Carolina, including, but not limited to, family crests, biographies, Official First Families of North Carolina memberships and applications for membership (OFFNC), wills, land deeds, cemetery location information, family newsletters, pedigree charts, birth and death certificates, marriage licenses/deeds, census data, descendant lists, and photographs. Much information can be found for the Blount, Bowen, Bryan, Clark, Godley, Hunter, Little, and Galloway family lines. Extensive information can be found for the Hardy/Hardee and Ross family lines.
Lida Archbell Overton was born on February 24, 1919, in Washington, Beaufort County, North Carolina, to Charles Carney Archbell and Belva Agnes Ross. She graduated from Aurora High School and Aurora Business School. She married Jay B. Overton in 1938 and worked in The Bank of Aurora where her father had been a Director and President. During World War II, she and her husband moved to Baltimore, MD to work in the war effort. After moving to Newport News in 1957, she worked for The Bank of Virginia, retiring after 17 years of service. She was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and Circle #3 of The Women of The Church.
Lida began working on her family genealogy in 1939 and became even more active in retirement. She was a member of the Charles Parish Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent for three years; Tidewater Regents Club; National Huguenot Society of Virginia; Colonial Dames of Seventeenth Century; Tidewater Genealogical Society; United States Daughter of the War of 1812; Daughters of American Colonists, Fort Henry Chapter, VA; and Order of First Families of North Carolina.
Roy A. Archbell Jr. was born on July 14,1949, to Jessie Anna Cayton and Roy Alston Archbell. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1967. He attended Wake Forest University where he obtained his BA in 1971, and his law degree in 1974. In 1980, he opened his own law firm, Shearin, Gaw and Archbell. In 1991, he formed his own practice and worked as a sole practitioner until his retirement in 2015.
Roy also shares a passion for genealogy, like his aunt, Lida Archbell Overton. Roy is the author of Genealogy: The Descendants of John Archbell of Beaufort County, North Carolina, published in 2019. Together, Roy and Lida have compiled years of research and proved direct lineage to some of the earliest settlers in Beaufort County, North Carolina.

The material includes communications to and from Lida; additional documents and items such as wills, pedigree charts, and direct descendant lists; and Lida's personal recommendations for family research.
