This collection documents Stallings Air Force Base for the years 1952 and 1953 through 44 slides (most are identified with names and dates) and ephemera such as scrapbook pages containing photographs and notes, a Christmas card, a dinner program, newspaper clippings, a base map, and a pilot training certificate.
Biographical/historical information
The Stallings Air Force Base was operational from 1944 to 1957. It was originally built for the United States Navy and was used for flying training by the United States Marine Corps. The Air Force base was originally named the Marine Corps Auxiliary Airfield Kinston, but was then closed in 1945. The base reopened due to the Cold War and military expansion. In 1952 it was renamed Stallings Air Force Base in memory of Lt. Bruce Stallings.

The bulk of this collection are photographs of airmen on the Stallings Air Force Base in Kinston, NC. The majority of the photographs are labeled with the airmen's names and dates. The other part of the collection includes news clippings, maps, and certificates.
