The First Baptist Church was organized in 1809. The church was started by Sheriff Elijah Clark, John Brinson, and Mrs. Mary Willis Mitchell (married to Joshua Mitchell). The building was not erected until 1848 and was registered on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. During the American Civil War, he church was occupied by Union Soldiers from 1862 to 1865 and set up as a commissary and relief station. The church was restored in 1985.
This collection contains two folders. The bulk of this collection are programs relating to the First Baptist Church. There are dedication service programs, memorial service programs, and anniversary celebrations. Included within this collection is the textual history of the church and photographs.
