This collection (1961-1999) contains reports, publication issues, newsletter issues, memos, statements, press releases, and a policy guide received by Carroll Webber during his time as a member and as president of the Pitt/Greenville Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina. Also included are the first four issues of the ACLU "Stand" Magazine (2014-2015).
According to the donor Carroll Webber, the Pitt/Greenville Chapter was very active during the 1970s and 1980s. Its presidents included Charles Cain, Jean Lowry, Carroll Webber, and William Byrd. Cases that needed legal action were referred to the North Carolina Civil Liberties Union in Raleigh, N.C. In 1998, the chapter was closed in order not to divide effort and energy between the chapter and the newly created chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
This collection is housed in two archival boxes that include information about the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of North Carolina. The first box contains reports, publication issues, newsletter issues, memos, statements, press releases, and a policy guide received by Carroll Webber during his time as a member and as preside of the Pitt/Greenville Chapter of the ACLU of NC. Also included are the first four issues of the ACLU "Stand" Magazine (2014-2015).
The second box contains meeting minutes, lists of members, announcements, community services, and Bylaws and Guidelines.
