The Jackie Robinson Baseball League in Greenville, N.C., was founded in 1992 by Michael Jordan and Cliff Hickman of the Sertoma Club and Boyd Lee, the director of Greenville Parks and Recreation. The League was founded to focus on minority youth in West and South Greenville, to teach life skills, and to mentor academically and socially as well as athletically. At first all games were played in Guy Smith Stadium field, but in 1996 the Jackie Robinson Baseball Field was completed and in 2004 lights were installed to allow games to be played at night.
