Biographical/historical information
The Harvey Family Papers consists of documents spanning the history of the Harvey Family in Pitt County, North Carolina, 1788-1941. Charles Wesley Harvey Jr. was born on December 21, 1907 and died on September 28, 1968 in Pitt County. He attended and collected the several dance cards found within the collection. Harvey was an involved member of the Pitt community and served as a Council Member in the City Council from 1957-1961 (City of Greenville).

Scope and arrangement
The Harvey Family Papers consist of five series of documents ranging in time from 1788-1941. Series I consists of a succession of dance cards from the late 1920s to the late 1930s. The first folder contains dance cards from Eastern North Carolina and Virginia (1923-1938), including locations such as: Farmville, NC; Kinston NC; Rocky Mount, NC; Williamston, NC; Windsor, NC; Robersonville, NC; Morehead City, NC; Virginia Beach, VA. The second folder contains dance cards and a dance ticket from East Carolina Teacher College (1931-1938) located in Greenville, NC. The next folder consists of more dances cards and dance tickets (1928-1934) from dances held within Greenville, NC. The next folder contains more dance cards (1926-1927) from events held in Washington, NC. The next two folders contain dance cards from events in Wilson, NC (1939-1940) and Tarboro, NC (1931-1934). The following folder houses dance cards from Western and Central North Carolina (1928-1930), including locations such as: High Point, NC; Ashville, NC; Raleigh, NC. The final folder in this series consists of dance cards and tickets (1926-1930) from unknown cities and locations.
Series II contains miscellaneous cards and tickets (1926-1938) most unidentified. The series includes a labeled ticket to a Horse Show located in Greenville, NC.
Series III contains tickets to a variety of sporting events (1933-1936), at Duke University, in Durham NC, and a Greenville v. Tarboro football game Greenville, NC.
Series IV consists of a series of photographs (1941) of the 11th Marine Air Group stationed in Morehead City, NC.
Series V consists of oversize documents. The first item in this series is a Land Grant for the State of North Carolina (1788) to John Coart, granting him 25 acres of land within Pitt County on the South Side of Grindle Creek and South of the Neuse River. The second document within this series is a Land Grant from the State of North Carolina (1877) to Allen Johnson for 32 acres of land in Pitt County. The land was purchased by Johnson at 12.5 cents an acre, and it consists of land adjoining the existing farm of Allen Johnson to that of John Edwards. The third item in this series is a land deed (1819) from William Pugh to Pamela Johnson. The land described in this deed lay south of Grindle Creek and consisted of roughly 200 acres of land. The fourth document in the oversized folder is a Deed (1821) from John Coart of New Bern, North Carolina to Frederick Johnson of Craven County, North Carolina, for 23 acres of land in Pitt County for the cost of 300 dollars. The final item in this series is the Deed (1877) of W.A. and Mary E. Quinnery to Jacob McCotter for land in Pitt County, North Carolina, this land totaled 274 acres. Mary E. Quinnery purchased the land from Joe Patrick upon his death. Land Commission Allen Johnson oversaw the sale.
